    Hi everyone,

I apologize if this topic has been beaten and discussed to death:) But as a new lab mommy, I am forever confused by how much I should be feeding my darling puppy. Enya is 4.5 months old and per the VET's recommendation, I am feeding her 3 times a day, 1 cup each time. Is that too much or just right?

She gobbles it up and is perpetually looking for treats/snacks...greedy girl! Today, she had diarrhea and pooped all over in her crate. I am worried if I am over feeding her. Please share your insights

    Thank you!

Hi , Lab pups ( and adults ! ) are greedy and will usually eat as much as they can , to the point of making themselves sick , I know this because my Sam broke into the food sack once , and didn't know when to stop ! Have a look at the feeding instructions , and give less , manufacturers very often quote a higher food amount than they actually need , so if in doubt, lessen the lunchtime feed a little , the other two feeds are the more important ones ! Also bear in mind that if she is having treats , she will need less food at mealtimes , keep the three meals a day until she is around 6/8 months of age x

In regard to gobbling it up...have you thought about soaking her dry food then stuffing a long and freezing...then she'll take longer to eat it.:) I give my pup these a lot...

She has not shown much interest in kongs. I will try again. She is now on limited diet due to her diarrhea:(

Hi @Priya71 , I was given good advice from my vet nurses when Cassie was teeny weeny tiny -- they see so many overweight Labradors, and dogs in general, and that was to do things that slow down their eating. You can put the food inside little boxes or milk cartons, even put them in an old sock so that they have work to get it out. Cassie loved that, and these days she has her tea spread out on the gravel in the garden. Instead of eating it in seconds it takes her 15-20 minutes to find it all, her nose is going and her tail is going. But now that winter is coming I shall have to get one of those slow feeders for wet days.
