Ok, I am a bit afraid to post this in case anyone on this site knows me in real life, but I think Jess might have fleas. We treated her with advocate just last week, and she doesn't seem to be scratching that much but there are little black grains in the bed which the internet tells me are probably flea poo. And if I didn't feel itchy before I definitely do now! The vet can't see us for a week so what's the best course of action? Wash her and every soft furnishing in the house? Apply more advocate? Move house? Help!
I think it's ok for me now that you as far across the country from me as you can be ! I don't have a definitive answer but it could be that the treatment has worked and the fleas are falling out Is it possible to have a phone consultation with a vet or vet nurse?
If you want to be sure it's flea dirt get some white kitchen roll or toilet roll and dampen it slightly and put a bit on the paper if it goes pink it's got blood in it and is flea poop. It might just be fleas dropping off from the treatment. I don't think you can reapply so soon after a treatment.
I tried this earlier, before I put the sheets in the wash. It was a bit inconclusive to be honest - it didn't go clearly pink and most of the bits didn't dissolve at all. So maybe they are critters falling off? Yugh. And even if the ones on her have fallen off, we'll still need to wash all the cushions, throws etc. This is not one of the high points of dog ownership.
We had a flea infestation about 10 years or so ago.We had to treat the carpets with a spray (from the vet, I think it was called Indorex.) It did the trick ok. I wouldn’t put anything else on Jess or bath her as the Advocate will kill any fleas on her.
Oh yes, I got some of this back in the summer, my cat was constantly infested, I sprayed it everywhere she lies and she hasn't been bothered since.
@Joy @selina27 thanks for the recommendation - I've just ordered some indorex. And I'll not wash Jess then, will leave the advocate to do its work.
