Since this afternoon puzzle has been coughing quite a bit, well i say coughing, it is more like heaving. At first we thought that it was kennel cough, but she has also now started to wretch when she coughs, so it is more like something is stuck in her throat or something along those lines. We don't want to go rushing her off to the emergency vets, as it is not constant but it is every now and then. We have given her a drink and a small teaspoon of honey to see if that helps. We might have to take her to the vets tommorow due to another problem, but it is very concerning when they get ill, especially the little ones
Re: Puppy coughing Oh dear Annabelle, they are a worry aren't they!! Hope you get to the borrom of it and she's better soon

Hope you get to the borrom of it and she's better soon
Currently she is sleeping on my lap snoring, as i thought that a bit of TLC was required to make her feel better, and i wanted to have a cuddle
Re: Puppy coughing everyone knows cuddles (especially puppy cuddles) have great healing properties ;D
Re: Puppy coughing Hiya, Sounds just like what murphy was doing last week. It was horrible heaving and wretching and occasionally coughing up a white phlegm type thing. We rang the emergency vet because we were worried he had something stuck in his throat but they said they were sure it was kennel cough but to go into the vets in the morn to see someone.I then spent the night downstairs with him because I was worries that if they were wrong he might have an issue choking but when we went to the vets they confirmed it was definately kennel cough. I was surprised because its almost being sick more than coughing! They thought it would clear up on its own so didn't give any meds and so I have been giving him a teaspoon of honey every morning and night. It's been just over a week now and he's stopped coughing. They said the coughing can be excacerbated by things pushing on their throat so we took off his collar and only put him on a lead on his harness. A way of testing for kennel cough is to apply pressure to their throat and it will make them cough. I didn't do this myself though as was scared of hurting him! Kennel cough really is horrible and sounds horrendous but the vet assured me that it sounds worse than it is. The other thing they said was the symptoms can start quite suddenly which is why people think its something stuck in their throat. That's what I thought! We were thinking of ways to make him sick to try and sick it up, luckily we didn't though as it was kennel cough lol. Hope the little one is ok soon
Re: Puppy coughing She was a bit better this morning, still coughed a few times, but we are ringing the vet tonight anway just to be on the safe side.
I tried this last night, as someone else gave me a link to a video on hoiw to safely do it, and she did not cough, i done it several times just to make sure. She will start coughing if she rolls onto her back, and several times when she was asleep last night and she woke up startled when she coughed, it was funny to whatch but not for her
Re: Puppy coughing Hmmm yea don't know then. Murphy's coughing was constant all night and hardly slept at all, and when the vet did the throat pressing it made him cough so doesn't sound like the same thing. Hope she gets better soon!
