Make sure that you buy a crate with 2 doors, not the single door version. Makes it more adaptable for pisition and also better for crate training purposes. You don't need to buy puppy treats, you can just use some of the puppy's daily kibble allowance. With a small pup it is better not to introduce new foods particularly when they first arrive in their new home and can suffer tummy upsets.
It doesn't soak up much at all really - liquids pass straight through it. Which is good as far as washing it is concerned. Get a piece to fit your crate and a few more pieces for your home, especially if you have slippy floors. The non-slip back stuff is the best to get. You can easily cut it, just remove any loose "fluff" from the edges once you've done it. I have loads of vet bed around my house and in the car. You can't have too much.

Agreed. It’s really tempting to add new treats too soon. I’ve done it and regretted the soft poos which often result. Stick to kibble for a few weeks and poos will remain nice and firm. Also, always feed pups from below, not above. Eight week old pups can’t cough anything which gets trapped in their windpipe. .
Also if the treat is above it encourages the pup into more of a snatch to get the treat as they reach for it. Treat level with the mouth or below
I didn't know about vet bed until now, have just ordered some from zooplus, a double size piece which I will cut in half - 150 x 100cm £22.99.
