Almost seven months ! Where does the time go ? So happy to report that our little girl is doing really well, on all fronts ! On the physical side , she has now been on her glucosamine/chondroitin supplement for about three months now , and we are delighted with the change in her back knee . I have slowly increased her exercise too , and reduced her daily dose of Metacam , she is now on half the prescribed original dose and coping well, so well that she can do a respectable mile or two with her big pal and not limp afterwards . This was my aim , to walk them together , to have her pain free , she rarely carried the leg these days which is fantastic so my next goal is to cut out the Metacam completely , but slowly does it ! The light chasing has also reduced , maybe she is too shattered to bother , after her rambles ! We have been distracting her , playing with her and keeping the curtains closed on sunny days , all helping a lot . I can now have her off lead on most walks , her confidence is growing as she will now deviate a little, into the undergrowth away from me, but always in full sight . Her whistle training is a work in progress , and always will be , a deaf dog is a challenge but one that can be overcome , we are just thankful that she can hear the whistle and what a joy it is to see her come running to me , treats help ! The only place I haven't allowed freedom is the beach , the space is just too vast and I`m not confident enough , yet , but a long line gives her some chance to enjoy the beaches . All in all , she has brought joy , is proving to be a lovely little companion to Sam , and I am so pleased that I found her on Facebook ! She had been advertised as a two year old entire bitch , so it doesn't take much imagination to think where she might have ended up , but she is ours and a keeper x
So very happy you and Nelly found each other Kate, you bring each other happiness and love; and that is exactly how it should be. Especially nice that she and Sam are such pals, and of course the joy that Paul gets from her xxx
So good to read this. Advertising a dog on Facebook, is a step too far for me Good though that you happened along that day and she has landed up in a loving caring home, rather than what could have happened. Very best wishes with her continued progress x
She is such a delight for you all! So glad she has settled in with you so nicely...she has no idea how lucky she is!
What I can never ever come to terms with , is that her previous owner handed her over, after taking the money, and had not got the first clue where her dog was going . It wasn't until she messaged me via FB , asking for our address so that she could forward the microchip details and Petlog paperwork , that she knew where we lived . Can you just imagine, selling your dog to a complete stranger and not knowing where it is going ? No, neither can I , it beggars belief to me
The previous owner obviously didn't care a damn. How fortunate little Nell is that you saw the advert on Facebook. She sounds as if she gives you and Sam (and OH) such pleasure, which is lovely to read.
Sounds like a real result for Nelly, Sam and you. All getting on splendidly and she is getting the best care. Have fun!
Nell really does have the luck of the Fairies shining on her. The tiny dog is now a massive part of a loving family - something she could have never imagined.
