Hi Myself and my wife will be in 2wks collecting a lovely 8 week golden lab we are now retired and can devote our time to our wee girl she will be showered with plenty of love that's for sure We both had labs years ago and love them I have joined this form so that we can get best information on the food for feeding our pup and problems to look out for heath wise. I had Juno my black lab in my teens in the 1960s there was no internet then and dog food was mostly in cans and not a lot of information So now there is so much information and dog food manufacturers out there who are more interested in selling the products than what they put in the food I know not all work like that but who are the best ones for your dog ? so anyway sorry for the long winded yap and I look forward to this site for experienced help and information Thank you
Know what you mean our dogs in the past had tinned food. This time we went for dry puppy food he liked it and there was less mess etc and it was easier to measure out. We also used it for training so it was good all round. Now 18 months old still on dry food but low fat as much to his disgust he is on a diet
Welcome to the forum You must be pretty excited to be soon welcoming a new puppy! The range of available foods can certainly be a bit confusing... Which country do you live in? Someone who lives in the same general area will be able to give you an idea of what they use. Generally speaking the more you pay the better the food is (mostly....). The main thing is to avoid the cheap end of the market. As you would with your own food, read the ingredients list and steer away from anything that sounds like it's full of bulk fillers like corn or other cereals. In the first instance though it's best to start with exactly whatever the breeder has been feeding your pup. Stick with that at first, and then, later, switch over to something you prefer, if you want to. Make any switch gradually over the course of a week or two - slowly reducing the proportion of the old food and increasing the proportion of the new food. That will prevent any tummy upsets that can be caused by a sudden change

Hi and welcome. Dog food can be really confusing and also, what suits one dog might not suit another. There are some dog food comparison sites which might be worth looking into. Have you read The Happy Puppy book? If not I highly recommend it as it gives you a lot of tips on managing behaviour and what to expect. Good luck
Thank you for your help and yes your right it was tined food that was the norm way back then I have heard about Wellness kibble it is suppose to have a good write up I am sorry I didn't get back to replying to you sooner but I am still finding my way around this great forum . oh by the way you mentioned about your lab disgust at being on a diet my old lab use to thump herself down on the floor and let out a great sigh to let you know she wasn't happy and was in the huff hope the diet working thanks
