We didn’t get passed first base in the recall challenge! I couldn't get him to look away and concentrate on the food! Dunce caps on again....

I reckon he thinks there is no point being interested in the food because he knows that he is not allowed to counter surf (while I’m there, anyway).

I gave up and went back to work on my laptop, in another room, I put the biscuits away, and I still had my whistle round my neck. I heard him counter surfing in the kitchen and blew his recall. He came to me, carrying the pack of flash wipes that you can see behind the food bowl in the video… at least he delivered the pack of flash wipes to hand! Hurrah!

We are so bottom of the class at this stuff!

I’ll have a little try later with fillet steak or something…

He is a true labrador piggy! I think that it's because we have never given him food unless it's on the floor in a bowl, or kong, or from our hands as a training treat. So it didn't enter his head to try get food from the counter while I was there.

Grandhumdad has just arrived, so I can get someone to hold the food out. That'll work, I reckon.

Aha, that must be it. He knows he's not allowed to countersurf, so wouldnt even look at the food on the counter while you were in the kitchen...

    He's beautiful by the way...

That's pretty similar to Murphy, I showed him and he looked interested and then I put them on the counter and he just looked at me and then walked and sat right in front of me, I tried to encourage him verbally and walked and shook the bowl and then walked back to the otherwise of the room with him following me and then he went and sat in his crate obviously thinking, she usually gives me treats when I'm in here. Lol.

Well! The slowest recall ever...I'd say that was a bare scrape through of a pass of the challenge! Although since Grandhudad had fed him half the treat pot (and I wanted those treats for the dummy clicker training later!) before I came in, I think I'll say it was about ok...

Very useful exercise, I think, we'll work on this and similar.

i had to laugh whilst watching that video, as puzzle was sleep until she heard the whistle, she was up like a shot and went looking round the house for someone holding a whistle and treats, she was disappointed when no one appeared :p

Oh Julie he is LOVELY......I might try and do a few excercises with Dex tomorrow and if I'm brave enough and can do filming and excercises I might post ::).....training has done a total back step due to his ops,he's been on lead walking for 2 weeks,I won't blow his whistle in the house because we are all marble tiles and he gets up such speed he's like a speedway skater.....it can't happen with stitches, wince, wince. So I wonder what he will be like on the whistle when he gets let away :-\....he is also being very spoilt because we feel so sorry for him ( chris spoiling more than me) I've just got in from time off Dex watching and the lounge is covered in shredded white and red leather???hmmmmm his football, which he loves ( and I've just had a lightbulb moment about clicker training the retreive, his football ;D bit of a mouthful though ???)......'Outside Toy' which is what we say to him at the door and he drops it....has suddenly become and 'inside toy'....why ?I asked my lovely Hubst.....'Well he's had such a miserable time lately and he looked so fed up,it gives him a bit of pleasure.....'can't argue with that at all but I know we are going to have to be careful not to create a spoilt boy!x

I am so liberated! I displayed myself to be such a total numpty, that I can post what I want now! (Not that you will be a numpty, you are so much better than I am). So, whey-hey, I benefit from all the advice, and don't care how bad I look because everyone knows now anyway... :) :) :)

    It's not a speedy recall, that's for sure! We'll work on it... :) :) :)

The aga came with the house. I love it. So does Charlie. It's got 4 ovens. Which is handy, as we can't use at least one when there is a labrador snoring in front of them with his bum against the doors. The gas bill, however, is best not mentioned....

OH wants to convert ours to burning wood pellets - for economy and sustainability reasons. Which is fine, in theory. It's just there are no suppliers of the special pellets in Cornwall, and 30 steps up to the house...I've put it on the "things to look into when we retire" list...
