I've passed this through with Pippa and the mod team, who are happy for me to post my request for charity here.

As you know, the dog shelter I volunteer at is hugely under-funded and not the most luxurious of accommodations for the residents (understatement of the year). In the winter, there is very little protection from the wind and rain. Most of the dogs have breeze-block shelters in their kennels, but they do little against the elements and the concrete floors are freezing for the dogs to sleep on. The owners spread straw, but that is hugely unhygienic, forming a breeding ground for ticks, lice and other nasties.

That's where you come in. If any of you have any old blankets, towels, bedding of any description or other linen that would be suitable to give the dogs something to make nests from, we would all be hugely appreciative. Anything to get them off the concrete and a little warmer.

If you could spare anything like that and are willing to send it to my parents' address in England, I can pick it up to bring back when I drop Conchita off. Please PM me if you can help, and I'll give you the address.

    Thank you so much!

Are duvets and pillows suitable Fiona? I have loads of old ones, I could probably vaccuum pack them to decrease their volume?

Anything like that would be brilliant! If there's anyone in the Surrey region, I can collect to save postage.

    Thank you so much x

I've been meaning to turn out some cupboards for some time now so this might get me off my backside to do it!
    What about old curtains?

Will the people working there wash and change them regularly?

Regularly? Well, not as regularly as you or I, no. This is a shelter that isn’t even manned 24/7, after all. But on occasion, yes.

Obviously it's a little impractical for me to donate but I have just donated all of Nathan's baby blankets to our local shelter :)

I am sure we can sort something out, not a problem to drive over to you :)

I dont have any old blankets, they all go to the Guide Dogs school, so I’ve sent some new vetbed via Amazon.

I love the thought of being able to help those dear dogs sleep more comfortably xx

    :)

I would like to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who has donated to this cause. I have an enormous pile of blankets and other soft bedding to take back with me for the shelter dogs. They will be so much better protected from the cold this winter because of your huge generosity. Thank you, thank you, thank you x
