we have our lab puppy and feed her puppy kibble dry food and it looks a bit hard for her to crunch so we soak the kibble to soften it I was wondering if anybody has done the same
and if soaking it you loose any of the goodness in doing so

You can soak kibble, and a few members here do. I wouldn't though worry that the kibble is too hard to crunch :)

I soaked the kibble the first week she was home with us, as that's what the breeder had been doing, then just gave hard kibble after that and she was fine. It doesn't take any of nutrients away to soak it.

Even their puppy teeth are very sharp (as you’ve probably discovered ;)) and they can crunch raw bones so I wouldn’t expect dry kibble to be a problem. But if you’re happier soaking it then that sounds fine too, as presumably the pup will lap up any liquid as well as the kibble.

The kibble certainly won’t be too hard - my puppy was eating raw chicken wings at 8 weeks. But if she is used to her kibble being soaked and prefers it that way, then I wouldn’t worry about continuing to do that for a while. With my first two puppies, I would pour a bit of warm water on the kibble immediately before serving. It wasn’t soaked, but they liked it that way and it slowed them down a bit!

As per breeder we soaked for several weeks. REally, really soaked. We put about 1/4 the amount of kibble in water with the kibble at one feeding to soak for hours till the next feeding. The overnight soak was 8 hours. The kibble was mush.

You do lose some nutrients as the water exposes Vit C to the air and it evaporates. Yes, and I just looked this up so I could give you a link but could not find anything that says the same thing now. I found this years ago when Oban was a puppy and asked the breeder about it and she said it was an inconsequential loss.

We just put warm water on and feed - we don’t leave it to soak.

Is there Vit C in dried kibble? I didn't know. I do use Ester-C supplement every day as a separate tablet.

But if there, the loss is neglible as the effect from the heat in the hot water is quite small compared to the heat/time/pressure used in the manufacturing process.

The crunching of the kibble also supposedly helps clean teeth.....though not nearly as effectively as a raw chicken wing.
