Good news, hope the medication sorts it all out.

That does sound hopeful. Sometimes when Snowie is about to scratch, he stops and hunches up, then pauses to think (it seems!), and then scratches. When this happens I hold my breath and wait and see - cos he also has a history of slipped disc, and I’m very relieved when the hunching was just a transition to get into the right position to scratch (eg using back leg to scratch his underarm).

Hopefully in two days all will be fine. Was the injection a cortisone injection?

Yes it was like that, except during those hunched up times he never fully lifted his leg to scratch, possibly because both ears were bothering him. I understand why you would be worried!

The injection was Dexafort, which contains a glucocorticoid steroid.

    Very! :star:

I should have asked the vet but what's the best method of keeping the ears clean on a regular basis? I have gentle face wipes (for me, not him!), could I use those or would that not be suitable?

I wouldn't use human wipes as some of the chemicals might irritate his ears. I bought doggie ear wipes from Pets at Home :) x

Glad Beau is better and all cleared. Hopefully all will be well moving forward

We have to clean Vanillas ears on a regular basis. Each week we clean with a cotton pad slightly damp. Then every 2weeks we have to put an ear cleaner in and wipe with a cotton pad. She hates it but is getting better after lots and lots of desensitization towards it

We got special ear cleaner for Lilly too from the vet
Advice was to use it every 2 weeks unless she had got wet.....like swimming....or in the rain......
We do it roughly fortnightly ;)

There’s a wonderful article on the Labrador Site on ear cleaning. Basically, use damp cotton wool with water, squeeze till damp, not wet, and wipe ears clean. Repeat with clean cotton wool until cotton wool comes out clean. Then dry thoroughly with cotton wool. No need for anything fancy for regular cleaning.

I also use a cotton bud to clean the crevices in the outer ear. I don’t stick anything down the ear canal, can be painful and dangerous to the ear.

Snowie loves having his ears cleaned, goes into seriously relaxed deep breathing.

If his ears look like they need more cleaning, I use a product I bought at the vet, requires squeezing some liquid down the ear canal. Very rarely do this.
