Hello. My 11 week old yellow lab presented with sudden lameness two days ago. He couldn't stand up without crying in the morning....he had a terrible limp and was favoring his right frong leg. He is clearly in pain. I took him to the vet and they asked if he has experienced trauma, but I am not aware of anything that might have happened. The issue is clearly in his right shoulder. The vet feels nor sees apparent swelling in the area but upon an exam, it is apparent that the pain is in the shoulder. He was the smallest in the litter but is growing very fast and gaining up to 1/2 lb per day. (Maybe this is related to rapid growth)?

Prior to the onset, he has only been in our back yard (always accompanied)...he has not yet had all of this shots so we stick close to home. He is on a painkiller and anti inflammatory drug now...I see no improvement today. He just lies there as it hurts him to move. He is eating and drinking no problem. He has no fever and otherwise has been pronounced healthy. We held off on xrays as he did not exhibit signs of a dislocation or a fracture....but now I am wondering if we should just go ahead and do the xrays....it is horrifying to see him like this.

Has anyone seen something similar? Sorry if this is a repeat post...I am new to this site and am so desperate for help. Many thanks.

Hi there, I am very sorry to hear about your puppy. I can only suggest that you insist on an X-ray, and possibly a second opinion.

Agreed. I would have thought that with 24 hours of pain meds and anti-inflammatory drugs in him, he would be showing improvement, but he is not. :(

I hope he's feeling more comfortable. Have the xrays shown anything unusual?

Hope all is ok with your pup & it's not joint problems. X-rays don't always show everything. Agree get a second opinion if necessary and if there is a joint problem , get in early while he is young.
