:cwl:This reminded me of my husband’s grandmother about 35 years ago. Every time we visited she would insist on trying to get our springer spaniel to balance a biscuit on her nose, every time with the declaration, ‘Well our Prince could do it!’ It didn’t work.

We've been going to the same little cafe in the station every weekend for weeks now. Coco sits quietly under the table and gets the occasional fuss from staff and customers. 3 or 4 weeks ago, we were leaving via a dark, narrow wood panelled waiting room - there was a family with a child. Instead of walking through quickly, OH stopped. The father asked the kid to say "hello" he didn't want to. Coco barked - it echoed loudly. The kid was terrified. We exited quickly, apologising profusely. It was all a bit stressy for Coco - too many people in such a confined, noisy space.

Fast forward to today - We'd just enjoyed a coffee & a cake and were leaving. The wife half of the owner team caught us in the waiting room and said she didn't think it was a good idea if we came back to her cafe again. Coco had frightened the kid the other week & they were never coming back. I was sad but what else could I do, but apologise again, say it was an odd circumstance that caused it and leave with our new ban. We ambled off along the platform. Next thing the woman came running out calling after me. What now? "oh I didn't realise you'd just been inside the cafe" - yes. "well...er perhaps we could come to an arrangement" - yes? "perhaps if there's no children in, you could come in?" umm, thank you. "I mean he IS a big dog, and he looks so fierce, well you know I'm scared of German Shepherds" - she has told me this before, she has even given Coco a biscuit. "Well my husband has just shouted at me, he said THAT DOG HAS JUST SAT UNDER THE TABLE FOR 20 MINUTES WITHOUT A PEEP"

The trains don't run in the winter, so less footfall - I don't think they can afford to be banning regular customers! So glad the hubster put in a good word for us.

Oh I am glad that the ban was retracted! Absolutely that many people in a confined space would be difficult. We every so often have the same sort of situation with the Pig, often it’s when we are sitting in an outdoor cafe and some kids suddenly run past shouting because they are playing a game and they frighten the Pig and she leaps up and barks, which of course frightens them. And people are much more angry about frightened children that frightened dogs! I always feel miserable and guilty afterwards, but I know I am doing my best with her. It sounds like Coco is doing great in that cafe.

I can't believe that Ella will be three in April. It frightens me how quickly time is going by.

Do you sometimes have a moment where you find your dog soooo cute that it almost hurts? Last night, I was tidying the kitchen before bed and the Pig had been asleep in her nest for hours. OH is asleep on the sofa. The Pig gets up and I see her waddling in to the kitchen, half asleep with one ear inside out and carrying OH’s sock. She blinks at me, turns around and toddles back out, and by the time I get to the living room OH now has no socks on, and the Pig is fast asleep back in her nest, on top of two socks and now with both ears inside out. She is such a cute little pig when she is sleepy :inlove:

I love it when Ella comes and cuddles up with me. She'll be looking at me but as I rub her neck and ears, I see her slowly struggling to keep her eyes open. Within minutes she's fast asleep.

It still amazes me how they balance themselves on the top. Plus I really wish I knew what the attraction is being on top.
If anyone ever finds the answer, can you let me know?

Stanley is in a mischievous mood tonight and keeps stealing pillows and clothes from the clothes horse.

I'm upstairs at the minute and I can hear OH getting more and more fed up with home downstairs. Then all I hear is..

"Stanley man, behave! ... don't you wag that tail at me".

Pongo's approach to sitting on the chair. (Do not ask me how he got into this position. But he was snoring.)

I just had my first long-line related mishap, in the year I have been using one! Lined up the Pig for a nice marked retrieve, no obstacles or anything so I left her line on. Stupidly didn’t realise that said line was round my leg when I sent her  half realised but then thought it would surely slip round, but turns out there is a lot of friction between boot and long line! Lifted me up leg-first and dumped me on my back! The Pig was temporarily slowed but carried on and returned to drop the dummy on my face whilst I was still lying on the ground. I won’t be doing that again!

Goes to show dogs have a sense of humour. At least she completed the retrieve with what must have been a fairly big distraction. Well done that dog!

She proceeded to then shove her nose in my treat bag. No sympathy from the Pig!

Well after 2 soaking wet walks on the run, I have caved in and ordered a Ruff and Tumble drying coat for Coco. I have tried and tried to put "Doggy Shake" on cue, but Coco is being a bit slow and he prefers to shake it off in the comfort of his own home . Even Belle, the most untrained dog in the world, could manage a Doggy Shake when asked (she only had 2 and a half other cues - "sit", "paw" (useless, I know) and "here" (this was the half-cue - it worked sometimes))

There's a joke something like - if you want to know whether you own a spaniel or a labrador, try falling over and see what the dog does when you're incapacitated. If it comes back to you and jumps on your head it's a labrador, if it runs for the hills it's a spaniel. So maybe if it goes straight for the treats it's a pointer?

You won't regret it! Yet another forum-inspired purchase of ours but Jess loves it and it really works.

Oh my gosh, you are so lucky! That could have been a horrible fracture, a knee gone, or something else awful. So glad you're OK.

Yesterday we had a class competition at dog training. The retrieve: Molly sat at heel while I threw it, ran out when sent, picked it up, ran back, sat straight holding the dumbbell, handed it to me when asked. Then the trainer said ‘Finish your dog.’ I sent her round behind me , expecting to see her come into a sit on my left side -but no, someone had dropped a paper till receipt on the floor and she was busy eating it. What is it with this obsession with paper? It’s proving harder to solve than dead seagulls!

Yeah it could have been dreadful! Luckily I just feel like my bones have been a bit jangled! I have certainly learnt a lesson today. Also, Mark Todd Country Boots are made of tough stuff, not a mark on my leg! I have now justified their expense to OH :)
