    Hi All!

My 3.5 month old lab puppy has scratched himself raw under one of his front legs. We think it was a bug bite or minor irritation that he has now scratched to the point that there are open areas.

Th vet recommended we get a hot spot ointment for him and told us to keep it dry. Basically, the spot just needs time to heal.

I've tried a few, but nothing seems to stop him from scratching. He can't lick it (thank goodness for that!), but it's clearly bothering him and he scratches at it frequently. Any ideas of what we can do to help this heal faster?

Hi , you could try Manuka medical grade honey , you can buy it from Amazon , it must be the medical grade one though , it really can help troublesome wounds to heal and the bonus is that if he did lick it, it wont hurt him x

    Poor pup.

Did the vet check for infection? The vet can give you an effective antibiotic cream with a steroid in it that will ease the itchiness.

You can try putting a small t-shirt or a dog coat on him that will cover up the area.

No infection, luckily. He just keeps irritating it by scratching as soon as I can get it slightly healed.

I tried putting a little shirt on him but it’s in just the right place that he can get his foot under it and long sleeves are not an option because he’ll just rip them off. The vet gave me a cream today with some hydrocortisone and lidocaine to try to help the little guy.

Luckily he’s as happy go lucky as ever, so he doesn’t seem to be causing him any pain.

Tricky! What about putting a baby sock on his foot to minimise the damage from scratching? You’d need to tape it above his hock so it won’t come off.
