    Hi,

Just wanted to see if anybody has ever used these?

Vanilla is on them as of Monday for 2 weeks to calm her itching down after the weekend. After a bad night of licking and gnawing at her privates into Sunday, it got so sore that she was scooting around at times.
We manage her itchiness through various methods, and all have worked so far. I think it is the amount of building work happening down the road as they are demolishing buildings and levelling a large block to commence some building work. With the amount of dust being created and the season change it just got to much.
Now she is wearing a cone for a few days to let it all settle down.

We had the choice of either these or Apoquel. We had those last year, but Vanilla started to reject them after a few weeks and I did not like the side effects.

I know that Macrolone are steroids, so certain effects we will be aware off. Nothing that can't be managed. Just wanted to see if anybody else had used them?

    Thanks

Our dog is on Prednil (prednisolone) for seasonal itching. This is the same thing as Macrolone - just different trade names I think. We find it to be really effective. The only side effects are some initial sleepiness and peeing a bit more on the first day or two of use. We’ve been using Prednil for about 5 years with our dog Obi and have seen no other side effects. Our dog would be miserable for most of the year if this medication wasn’t available.

We’ve talked to our vet about Apoquel but our Vet wasn’t seeing particularly impressive results with this drug, plus it is a lot more expensive. So that put us off the idea and we’re sticking with the steroids.

Thanks for that @Oberon. Yes we found that she is more sleepy with the initial dose, starting to wake up a bit more now. Also goes to toilet more, especially during the night. This again is now just down to one trip.
Do you use it only during spring, summer and early autum every other day (if that is what is recomended to you).
Our vet has given us a 2week course, then see how she goes through managing it through topical cream and shampoo. If no good we can get more, but it is 5mg (quarter tablet) every other day.

When we used it for the first time we started with a 2 week course too I think. Now we use it in spring, summer and autumn but find that we can get away with one or two tablets (whole or half tablets) a week. We give him a tablet if he’s obviously itchy or starts to chew at his legs. If it’s not too bad then half a tablet is enough but we do use whole tablets if the itching is worse. It seems to work fairly quickly (within an hour or two). The thing that really aggravates itching for Obi is swimming in our local lake (there is a massive lake in the middle of Canberra) and if we can prevent him from swimming in that it really keeps the itch at bay and rarely need to use a tablet. But he goes to daycare and they go on walks and the walks usually involve swimming and Obi loves swimming, so.....

    :)

Thanks that is pretty much same as what our Vet has suggested then. We will see how she goes, good thing is I can just pick them up from Vet without a consultation for remainder of this season. And seems to be the same about 1 tablet each week

Yeah, that’s what we do too. We can get a new supply from the vet without additional consultations.
