    Hello all,

Our dog seems to be rather low on energy at the moment, and I'm not sure whether it's anything to be worried about or not. He is pretty easy-going at the best of times. He loves long walks, but recently, he seems not so interested in having a really good run off-lead and having a good play. He is more interested in just sniffing and keeping close to us. At home, he sleeps more than he usually does, and is less interested/inquisitive when we have visitors, or when someone comes in to the room. I would just describe it as lethargic behaviour. He is eating normally.

It has been very cold outside the las few days, and therefore the heating is on quite high inside. I wonder if it's anything to do with this? Or, should I get him checked out?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. He's nearly 3 years old. Peeing & popping all as normal.

Hi , I think any change in general behaviour is well worth checking out with your Vet , it may well be nothing to worry about , but will give you peace of mind , hoping he is fine .

You could just ring your vet to ask for advice as it could be something underlying or he could just be calming down a little. Personally I think it's worth a phone call. x :)

Thank you very much. I will phone the vet first thing. I hope there's nothing wrong. He just sort of seems tired and unenthused about anything!

Harley goes through stages like this, but I always err on the side of caution and call the Vets if it goes on for more than a few days. Hope it’s nothing

Hi there, yes, he's eating normally.

I had a chat with our vet early this morning, and given that all other aspects of Hugo's behaviour are normal, he said not to worry. He said that it isn't uncommon for dogs, like humans, to have spells of feeling a bit more lacklustre than usual. He did say to bring him in should the behaviour dip to an extreme, just to be sure.

I am working from home today, and have a sleepy foot warmer!! A few extra cuddles today, I think!

Glad to hear you checked in with the vet and he/she is not worried.

Murphy is just over three now and we notice he is not as exuberant as he used to be, not that he ever was really exuberant to begin with. He seems to have moved from needing to be physically challenged to more of a need for mental challenges. What I mean is that he used to go out and play ball for 45 minutes in the cooler weather this time of year. Now, he wants to play but he will only chase the balls for about ten minutes and then he wants to do something different, like fling pine cones around, or start a new game of fling the plastic plant pot in the air.

He liked to go for walks but never indicated that he wanted to go for one until recently. Every other day or so he will head over to where we hang his leash and point at it. So it is pretty obvious he is telling us he wants more variety in regards to activities.

I am like a lot of other people here, Murphy is so important in our lives that I do not like to just disregard changes in behavior. Happy to see you are the same way!
