Totally agree with this. Daily dealing with the hair from a yellow is very time consuming. I hadn’t bargained on this. Red’s coat is beautiful - very soft and the shades of red, yellow and white are stunning but.......the way it constantly comes out and sticks is overwhelming sometimes.....but she’s worth it.
I've stopped wearing black clothing for over a decade now Dog hair doesn't bother me except on black, it just shows up way too much (in our case as it's yellow hair). Otherwise I don't bother
Talking of dog hair , my sister who isn't a dog fan , came to visit once wearing a very beautiful cashmere jumper, navy blue . At the time we had Tess, our yellow lab who , like all our dogs frequented the sofa . Sister sat down and leaned back into the sofa , my heart sank because I just knew and I was right, when she got up to leave, her back was covered in blonde hair which had stuck to the cashmere like glue . Did I tell her ? No , I just smiled to myself xx
This is why I've not even considered getting a yellow Lab, even though I think they are beautiful and SO much easier to photograph, which for me is actually a consideration. But no...I've been dressing for a black (and tan) dog for 20 years now and I'm too old to change my entire wardrobe philosophy.
I keep reading (here) that some field bred dogs don't have a double coat, but honestly I've never seen a Lab that didn't have a double coat. Tilly's guard coat is shorter and softer than Coopers but she definitely has a double coat. All of our Labs have been field bred dogs, but Cooper is the tallest thinnest of all and she has the heaviest coat. I don't know why Field breeders would want to eliminate the double coat, since field dogs have to work in cold wet weather and also swim, so if any thing, they should need a heavier coat than a Bench bred dog. Cooper has the most water resistant coat of any of our labs.
Willow does have a double coat in that she has undercoat and she has guard hairs, but it’s not a “proper” Labrador coat. Her tummy is nearly naked and I can easily part the coat to get to her skin when I’m using spot-on treatments. Compared to Luna whose skin I can’t see however much I try to part her hair because it’s so dense. Even on her legs; again, Willow’s hair is quite thin on her legs so I can part it easily to check for ticks etc. I can’t see Luna’s skin on her legs and so she’s the only one of my three I’ve ever found an engorged tick on, simply because I can find them on W&S while they are tiny but don’t have a chance on Luna.
When we had our first Lab, Ginger, we had a 90 Subaru Legacy. The upholstery had a decided nap, unlike our 95 or 05 Outbacks. Ginger's hair would embed itself in the upholstery and you would see brown hair sticking straight out of the seats. The only way to clean it was with one of those sticky rollers. We haven't had the problem since, but I think it was more the upholstery than the specific Chocolate coat. Cooper's coat is a lot like Ginger's was, a lot stiffer and harsher than Tilly's. Tilly's coat feels like a seal's coat, or what I imagine them to feel like.

Hi all So sorry for not updating and replying if been busy the past few months looking after my sister she's been in a car accident and I went to go live with her to help care for her as her husband is working all day. Anyway I wanted to say that I have decided the Labrador is for me and if been spending my time since my last post meeting lots of different types of labs and I know which types I like. Iv also ordered Pippa's Labrador handbook. And I'm going to crufts on the gundog day to meet loads
I really could go as the NEC is only 25 minutes drive from me. But Gundog day is also Mothering Sunday!
