I get a kick out of this, but I don't really understand it. We have a dog door into the fenced back yard so our dogs can go out any time they want to, so going out is a non event. Cooper will occasionally bark a a squirrel, or a neighbors dog or cat, but mostly she is pretty calm and quiet when she goes out on her own. If we both go out at the same time, she will run out the (people) door, jump off the deck and race to one of the corners of the yard and then race to another corner. It as though she has to show me that she has a job to do patrolling the yard, and she wants me to see her do it. After one or two trips around the yard she comes back and acts normal. i.e. She tries to get a ball game going, or tugs on her dummy, which is fastened to the upper deck with a bungee. She will generally stick close to me if I am doing something she thinks is interesting.
