How do you stop a happy tail from clearing glasses off the coffee table?

We have a wooden chair with vertical bars for the back and we use that as a side table for drinks, with the back of the chair to the room. The chair back provides a protective cage for the drink. Same kind of concept.

 

Use a big coffee table and put the drinks in the middle. It sort of works but Cooper's tail is huge and heavy. Tilly's tail never caused much problems, but Cooper is a lot bigger, and her tail goes with her ears.

We often put drinks on side tables instead of the coffee table.
