Just back from a week in Bavaria, and am thrilled to report that Poppy, despite only being 20 weeks of age, was an absolute STAR. She took the long car ride in her stride, behaved in an exemplary fashion in our holiday apartment (no accidents and no chewing!), went on the cable car up the mountain without a whimper, went with us to restaurants, and even accompanied us on a day in a rowing boat on the lake. AND she swam with me in the lake too! We have now renamed her Poppy Popstar :D. (Of course, once we got home she reverted to her normal mischievous self, including wolfing down some poo, so her name was again changed - this time to Poppy Poopstar ).

Bones (being 13) stayed with friends, and enjoyed being the centre of attention and the freedom from puppy-nuisance for a while!

Hope everyone else is having a good summer - any summer holiday stories from your labs?

Oh bless her , what a good girl , you must be proud of her :)

We`re hoping to get a few days away in a cottage somewhere , havent decided where yet and most likely in September/October . We always took our girls away with us but the current pair havent ever been away, so it will be interesting !

Lovely story, glad you had a great holiday!
I don't want to leave Rachael while she is so small, but we will probably grab a few days in September. Dogs feature so prominently in my life that I don't mind having a few days 'dog-free' from time to time!

Luckily we have grown up kids that can take over, as it would cost a small mortgage to leave five in a boarding kennel. ;D

The whole 'what to do with the dogs when we go on holiday' is really a bit of an issue for a lot of people. I read the thread about 'Board kennel advice', and could really empathise. I used to be very spoilt, because like you Pippa I have grown up children who always seemed able to look after the dogs for me - but now they both live abroad, and so I think our holidays will increasingly be in places where we can take the dogs with us!

Mine goes to my mum or my sister - I think the trick is to have a really big family!

Yes, that does help a lot. But I live abroad, so it is not so easy to leave the dogs with family... In fact, I am working on my family to prepare them that on my next visit to the UK, the puppy will be coming with me... ;)

We never left our old dog in kennels and always managed to find a willing friend/family to house/pet sit for us. Times bring changes and with our new pup its a matter of introduce her to kennels or always take her away with us... we'll see how the introductory visit goes next week. It could well be tougher on us, tormented at leaving her, than her being spoilt and loving all the company!
We have a spare bedroom in our cottage (Galloway) - it's certainly a pet friendly household - if anyone's desperate for somewhere to go with their lab!! ;D
