Hi I bought a 8 weeks old female lab and she's really adorable... She was absolutely fine like for a couple of days and since the last 2 days I am noticing that she doesn't wants to stay in the warmth of the bed or crate.. she just wants to lie down and sleep in the floor after she's exhausted... It's winter here and the floors are really cold and she really shivers while she's down there but even if we bring her to the bed or keep her under a blanket she just won't stay there.. she just wants to lie down and shiver in the floor.. I just don't know what to do... Vet says it's normal... Any help guys like if it's normal or if I should talk to some other vet... Thanks for your replies guys
She may have a temperature so I would take her to the vet as soon as you can, just to check her out. Or she may not like being in the crate, is your house perhaps too warm for her?
I don't think so coz it's winter here and it's pretty cold inside... So we try our best to keep her with us under the blanket but she just won't stay there... It's seems like she finds peace there... Her body temperature seems normal to me but I will surely check her with the vet today...
My winter pup regularly sought out bare floor to sleep on. He still does. It's -22.4C here this morning and the heat was down in the house overnight, still he gets hot. Till he gets cool and goes back to a warm place. Did when he was a baby too.
Hey thnx @Snowshoe for the advice... Just one question. ... Does he like shivers when he's on the floor???
Yes, but I was never sure if he was shivering from cold or if he was dreaming. They can do a lot of twitching in their sleep. I was surprised at how he could not take the heat, even as a very young puppy. He still is quite heat intolerant, I worry far more about heat than cold.
Ooohhhh thank God @Snowshoe you helped solve a lot of the problem.. That's exactly what is the case with my little tiger.. But to be on the safe side I think I will take her to the vet today.. Thanks once again everyone
Many dogs dislike being under blankets. None of mine like being underneath a cover. My youngest runs very hot and likes to lay down on cold floors. This time last winter she was a very young puppy and would ask to go outside and lay down on the frosty ground. She wouldn't shiver, but definitely found relief in the cold. Definitely ask your vet to give her a check-up but it may just be that she runs hot like my Luna and @Snowshoe's boy.
The only time I've seen one of my dogs under covers is in a snow cave when they were wet and cold from being outside all day. In our house which is usually pretty cool they will lie on a hard floor, or on a couch, but not under covers. Cooper is more likely to curl up into a "tight ball of dog" while Tilly usually sprawls out. Odd, because I think Cooper has the denser coat.
Thnx guys for you all taking concerns and replying... I did take her to the vet and she confirmed that she definitely has a dense coat.. She said its absolutely normal for dogs with thick coats to lie down on the floor when they r hot and cool themselves down...
I'm glad you took her to the vet to get her checked. It's always best to be on the safe side and to get reassurance.
Yea @Naya coz it was totally confusing for me... None of my friends dogs behaves like this... I live in India and it gets pretty hot here so I guess when summer hits I need to make some arrangements for keeping my girl cool
Definitely. Kids paddling pools are great for them during summer. Also, look for some dog cool mats - my girl loves sleeping on these when it's warmer.
