Do Labs have a tendency to have discharge from the eyes? Simba has had this on and off since we got him, usually a little every day, but it seems to be a bit more since we got home. Sarah said she noticed it more since Sunday, when we got some snow and he escaped.....don't know if that is related or not? Eyes don't look sore or anything....
Re: Eye discharge Hi Lisa , Sam has a tendancy to runny eye from time to time , I put it down to the undergrowth he charges through constantly . I usually bathe them in used cooled tea bags , very soothing aparantly , but we do have some oitment from the Vet , Fuciderm I think , if it gets bad , that usually fixes it quickly . I do think its a Lab thing , the ferreting around in bushes and scrub
Re: Eye discharge Obi, until a few months ago, pretty regularly got somewhat goopy, slightly runny eyes in the mornings. I'd just wipe them with a bit of wet paper towel. He seems to have 'grown out of it' or something. I had the same thing with my previous Labrador.
Re: Eye discharge Hi Lisa, Hattie gets gloopy eyes but not Charlie, I just clean them out with a cotton wool pad.
Re: Eye discharge Hmm okay, I'll do the same then. Coming up to a vet visit as shots are due soon so I can ask about it then.
Re: Eye discharge Dex used to get irritated eyes when he was younger ,his third eyelid used to rub and produce little red bumps that were red and itchy...vet said he would grow out of it which he has but whilst he was growing I used to put a drop of tears naturelle in each day to lubricate them a bit,it helped.
Re: Eye discharge Yes, I think labs are a bit prone to it - also if you think of Newfies they do tend to have rather droopy eyes. I know last year Poppy got 'runny eyes' every now and then, first from grass pollen and then when she was out in the snow. Like others, I wipe it (I use cooled camomile tea), or use an ointment from the vet if it doesn't clear up.
Re: Eye discharge I'll just keep wiping it then, thanks for the suggestions. Been doing a C & T for eye examination (along with everything else that I can think of) in prep for vet visit....
Re: Eye discharge Lady gets it too. The vet said it was just a minor allergic reaction like hay fever and nothing needed doing - all normal. Sounds disgusting (well it is) but I just gently rub it away in the direction of her nose with my finger. Now wash you hands!
