I am currently eating cheese and biscuits and a jolly nice glass of Madeira by flickering candle light in bed with dog hot water bottle. Waiting for Scottish power to fix our supply. Sigh..... No electric to boil water for a cuppa so might have another glass of Madeira. Lilly's snores indicate the cheese is all in my tum.
Well, we have had a huge dump of snow. We decided to buy the house with the huge 600 square foot uncovered deck which is great in the summer but not so much in the winter. I worry that too much weight may collapse it So there I was last night shoveling 40cms of snow over the deck railing all by myself while it was snowing like crazy. Well technically I wasn’t alone, I did have Axel who was happily running around with his toy, lying down in the snow chewing his toy etc etc. It was cold enough that his drool and whiskers were white and frozen but he was fine, it was only -7. I was sweating from all my hard work. It took an hour and fifteen minutes! Then I wake up to another 10cms on the deck. I love the snow just not shoveling. I love that Axel is unphased by the cold, we played in the snow quite a lot yesterday and today, lots of ‘find it’ games. Just makes my heart happy when I see him having fun, his tail just never stops wagging.
Nelly wasn't very well yesterday , silly little thing broke through the fencing at the back of the greenhouse , nothing harmful in this wilderness , except for nettles and brambles , sore feet ! She also refused her tea for the first time , messed about with it . Arent we just worriers ? I got up at 5 to make sure she was alright , gave her breakfast which she thankfully ate . Early night for me , New Year or no New Year , pyjamas on , cup of tea and bed before midnight , my goodness we know how to party in Cornwall ! xxx
Came back on at 6am. "Let there be light, and there was" paraphrasing And also heating and foodmaking yay!
We went exploring today. There's a maze of small paths out the back of the Arboretum in the Forest of Dean so we checked them out for a future walk. We managed to find some clean, dry tracks through the woods and think we have a good route of about 3 miles.
Excuse the swears, but... FFS!!!! Willow has pulled off a rear claw on our afternoon walk. Blood. Everywhere. It looked like a massacre had taken place in the snow. She didn't even seem to notice, just like last time, but, if it's like last time, I imagine that it will begin to bother her in the next day or so. Poor girl, she really just can't catch a break. It's entirely my fault for letting the claws get too long; I've not trimmed them since being back in Andorra because she's been stressed and I didn't want to add to that. Sigh, I can't do right for doing wrong at the moment with this girl.
After deciding that the rain wasn't going to stop, we took the dogs out this afternoon to a local National Trust site where there are tracks through the woods. My son had remembered this walk from years ago, but I haven't used it recently. It's definitely one to remember for wet days, as I couldn't get my wellies on so had to walk in my gardening clogs - and managed to keep my feet dry! Needless to say, the dogs still got muddy!
Hope Willow isn't to miserable with her claw. Don't beat yourself up - it's just an unfortunate accident.
Sorry re Willows dew claw , don't blame yourself , the damned things are nothing but trouble anyway , hugs xx Nelly is just about back to normal after refusing food all day . I was beginning to think that we would have to call the emergency Vet , but took her for a walk, followed by a little manuka honey which she licked from my fingers . She was still a bit flat , and then suddenly perked up and started asking for her tea , ate a small meal and scampered round the house getting toys out, phew ! x
It's not her dew claw, it's one of her back claws, a proper one I'm glad Nelly seems to be perking up
