We decided to take Harley to the local woods as she loves it there. Car park was locked up so parked on the road, let her out then let her off in the car park. I threw a ball that hit a lamppost, and so did Harleys head :(. She yelped really loud and cowered away. She came straight to me and had a big lump and a tiny bit of blood just above her eye. We stood still, checking her and getting her to sit, watch my hand with the ball etc to make sure she was ok. She just wanted to carry on so we did a short walk. She seems ok, but the lump is pretty big and she pulls away when I try to look closer at it. I'm going to monitor her closely over the next few hours to make sure she's ok.
Are there any symptoms I should look out for other than being over sleepy, being sick, unsteady or disorientated?
I feel so guilty because my ball throwing is obviously shite. She left a dent and some of her hair on the lamppost!!

Oh my goodness, poor love , that must have been some hit ( and you aren't on your own in the shite throwing skills ) . You obviously know about concussion symptoms as mentioned , hoping the lump starts to go down soon . These things always happen over a bank holiday, typical ! x

Poor lass!! These things happen. Hope she’s ok.

As well as concussion symptoms keep an eye out for any neck soreness.

Just remembered @Naya when something similar happened to Sam , we were told to keep an eye on his gum colour , to check that they didn't turn pale x

Blimey @Naya! Hope Harley is OK. Gosh, your shite ball throwing is only marginally less shite than mine.. you'd have thought we would have improved somewhat by now.

Check for; lethargy over the next 24 hours, nausea (licking lips...etc. inappetence.) disorientation and also pupil size, although you would have other symptoms alongside irregular response pupils.

I am sure she will be fine though, maybe a wee bit shocked.. debatable whether due to sore head or your terrible throwing skills! :D:D

Oh dear poor Harley, bet she does feel shocked.

Who the heck put that lamp post there? In the wrong place surely :)

If you're worried about the swelling you could try cold compress, if she'll let you.

Thanks all. She was unsettled for quite a while when we got home - pacing, literally following me everywhere, whining etc, but finally settled for a snooze about 20 mins ago. She's had a nice tripe stick so her appetite hasn't been affected! I will keep checking her all over for the next 24 hours, especially as it was one hell of a head butt.
Really must practice my ball throwing!

    Poor Harley!
Pongo says he'll go soften up the lamppost for her if she wants.

That sounded horrid, poor Harley. I think I might have phoned the vet for advice. I hope she is feeling better.

Poor Harley, running into a lamp post is not fun. I suppose like any head injury or suspected concussion you'll just need to keep a close eye on her.

She’s eating and drinking fine which is a good sign :). She’s not as playful as usual but I don’t think anyone would be if they hit their head so badly. My OH is working from home tomorrow just to be on the safe side. If there are any signs of anything I will be at the Vets no matter the time.
