Hi there, we recently got our beautiful black lab named Frenchy. She is now 7 months and is doing really well.

Oddly she is pulling more now on her training lead than before and has started to charge off across the field if she sees another dog. Anyone have any advice?

Hello and welcome! Love the name... :)

Your dog is feeling more confident now and doesn't feel she needs to stick by you all the time. And perhaps you have relaxed your training a little, as you became more confident in her. Time to go back to basics with the walking to heel and proofing the recall... Tedious but necessary. ;)

Hi there, and welcome to the forum. :D

Are you exercising her on a training lead?

Normally we let a training lead trail on the ground, and you would use a short lead for heelwork.

Hi guys, thanks for coming back to me.

Maybe we have relaxed a little on the training? Basically we have field behind us and i walk her to heel on the trainig lead till we get there, then do some training etc... all on the training lead. Then i let her off the lead and we play retreives, general running around and recovering her balls etc...getting her to sit and stay whilst i place the ball somewhere and she finds it (not sure the right terminology sorry haha) and then we walk back and she generally stay with me within 5 yards all the way home ! But as i say, when off the lead, a dog may catch her eye and she's off ! and there we go apologising to the other dog walkers. It's not a major pain, but has knocked some confidence.

    Hi there,
It sounds as though you need to proof your dog's recall in the presence of other dogs. It is very common for young Labradors to struggle with recalling away from dogs. So you are not alone. :)

Have a look at the articles in the recall training centre.

You might also find it helpful to have a look at this article on how to use a training lead. You can put the regular lead on as well as the training lead for heelwork etc.
