Lady will walk to heel, but she tends to wander out to the full extent of the lead as a first option and puts a very slight pull on it. Every now and again I have to remind her to heel. Well the question is does she pull to get on or just pulls like a security blanket and needs to know I'm still at the other end of the lead.

It's very funny really. If I drop the lead she immediately stops and comes back to me wagging her tail and with her body in a submissive posture until I pick the end up again. Works every time. ;D

    Silly sausage!

So I think the answer is she needs to fell me still at the other end. I suppose that could be an extended "joined-at-the-hip" thing. ;)

That's interesting David, Hattie behaves in a similar way and when I stop to remind her she's at the end of the lead she looks round and comes straight back. Must be a girl thing ;D

The trainer I go to says this is usually the other way round - it's usually the human that feels better with the lead tight and keeps the tension even when a dog is behaving. It seems right that Lady might want to "feel" that David is there!

The trainer had to correct me from gathering up the slack lead so I could "feel" Charlie on the other end of it. I'm allowed to shorten the lead now though, so Charlie walks at the side of me, but the lead still has to be slack. I've been told now that I have to get a really short lead, just short enough to go from my hand with my arm straight, have a small loop and reach Charlie.
