Pleased to hear she's showing signs of improvement, hope it continues today.

 

I hope she continues to improve. It would be worth contacting the vet again if she’s still be sick and possibly not keeping down the antibiotics. Thinking of you.

Good news! Nala has got up this morning full of life! I'm so happy! No bleeding overnight, she's begging for food, asking to go for a walk. I can't believe the difference in her! I'm still going to call vets today for advice but hopefully she won't need any more treatment other than the medicine she has already.

Only problem is she is refusing point blank to even entertain her dog food. She did however pinch the kids breakfast this morning and she has had some more weetabix to get her medicine in to her so she is hungry and willing to eat.... any tips as to what to give her to keep her energy up while she is poorly or do you think im better just leaving her until she gives in and eats? Don't want to develop bad habits as she is terrible for not wanting to eat dog food anyway but obviously main concern at the minute is just getting her well again!

Try some sloppy chicken and rice?
I just cook a big handful of rice in plenty of unsalted water in a pot having added a small chicken portion which I shred once cooked. Overcook the rice and leave it watery.

I think good advice from @drjs re chicken and rice. She needs her nutrition to get better, and maybe she went off her regular feed when she felt so rough and it has bad memories. I know this has happened to me in the past when feeling really ill!

 

Good news that Nala is feeling better. I would go with sloppy rice but prefer to use white fish to chicken - mainly because it breaks up more easily in the rice

 

Phew, what a massive relief ! Maybe add a little honey to whatever she will eat , its natures healer and wont do any harm even if it doesn't do any good, its often used as a natural antiseptic by Vets , just a teaspoon full is enough once a day .

 

That's excellent news! You must be so relieved to see her feeling better. Yes, chicken or fish and rice might tempt her, then later perhaps add in a bit of her normal food (disguised with watery fish or chicken too).

 

Oh what fab news - I can feel the relief in your words . As I read your post I was thinking chicken and rice - see others saying the same. It won’t develop bad habits. Always given it to our older Lab when she has been ill.

Just thought I'd come back and update! So after 2 weeks of being fairly well Nala started to look poorly again, off food etc. Had a snotty discharge. Took her back to the vet who wanted to do loads of tests and a £1400 operation!
Thankfully he decided to try 2 weeks of antibiotics first. The improvement has been great, she is eating again, being a complete pain in the bum again and is just generally better! We are starting to wonder if there was something underlying before her season as she had been having quite runny poos occasionally, which we put down to her eating god knows what from the garden and she had gone off her dog food, which we put down to her thinking she was a human and too good for dog food! She is now back to being a greedy lab and her poo is solid.

Only problem was she still had the discharge! Back to vets we went and thankfully because she was loads better with the antibiotics the vet decided it was safe just to routinely spay her so £1400 op wasn't required
She was spayed on Monday and is doing fab! We are struggling to stop her running around and jumping but her wound seems to have healed really well. She is now fuming she has a plastic cone and even more fuming we keep laughing at her because of said cone! She is loving the medication though as she gets a treat out of the fridge to hide it in and has even mastered spitting out the tablet so she gets a second treat!

I'm just so glad she is well again and, fingers crossed, she will stay well now!
Still having a little discharge but vet said that should stop once the 'stump' has dried up a little.
