Hi all, I am new to the group I have 2 labradors 1 that’s 18 months and 1 that’s only 9 weeks old. On the puppy’s paperwork it says she is yellow but she is going quite dark -do you think she is yellow or fox red?

Hello and welcome ! Fox red is really classed as yellow by the Kennel Club, just a deeper shade of yellow, which has become very much loved and rightly so , all shades are lovely ! So , when you buy a yellow Labrador puppy , there is no way of knowing if the shade of fur will stay pale , deeper yellow or fox red . I guess if the parents are both fox red , the chances are that some of the pups will be too !

These too are both from the same mum but different dads - he seemed to get lighter as he grew and she is getting darker

Hi and welcome to the forum. As Kate has said, fox red is just a shade of yellow. As you can see from my avatar, I have two yellow labs; they are quite a dark shade of yellow, though not fox red exactly... The puppy (Merlin, now 10 months old) has got darker since we picked him up, while Poppy (six years old) has got lighter over the past year. Looking forward to hearing more about your two!

Ah that’s good that they are both classed as yellow on the paperwork - they are really great and both have completely different characters - thank you for replying

Yup, on paper there are only three colours: black, yellow and chocolate (sometimes registered as liver). Anything else is considered a shade of one of those three.

Welcome from me and 4 year old girl, Harley. She too is registered as yellow but as you can see by my avatar is fox red. She has gotten darker as she has grown.
    Your two look lovely.

My puppy Red is registered as yellow. Her mum is black but her dad is deep fox red. She is getting darker as she gets older. Absolutely love the colours of her coat - they are stunning. She has very fox red back legs. Your dogs look beautiful.
