Only about six weeks ago, I started Pearl (9mths now) back in her crate at night. When I take her for her last toilet time, she'll quickly do her wees, then the last few times just wonder around sniffing. Last night I got really frustrated, which I know doesn't help...but I wanted her to do a poo before bed....it was coming up (as far as I know) 5 hours since the last poo...I've been working on this as she's had accidents.Any suggestions? I have an idea...i don't want it to be a negative time for her and me!
What about taking her on a short walk before bed? That worked for us - less than 10 minutes down the street and she would go.
Lots of dogs don't poo before bed, I wouldn't panic if she doesn't. When I don't feel like waiting around, I take Xena out on her leash for her bedtime toilet, just in front of the house. She'll go for her wee, and I always give her a minute in case she needs a poo. Usually she doesn't, but sometimes she does. On the leash we're in and out in less than 2 minutes! When it's nice and warm and I don't mind hanging around I just let her on the back lawn.
I know I can't poop if I don't feel like it - maybe Pearl just doesn't need to go at that time. I agree that a short walk might get things moving.
Yep, I agree a short walk with the lead on could do the trick just before bed, it works for Cassie, I'd rather do that than hang around during in the winter months.
I’d let her settle into her own spending routine. Keir (eight months old) has two poos in quick succession in the morning at 7.30am then that’s all for the day. His last meal is 7.30pm. They are all different .
I actually tried this tonight and it worked! I wasn't timing as I went but got back and had been around 15mins. Actually quite nice as its summer here and was a nice evening....but I also hope it does settle into some sort of pattern. I feel like you've helped meso wanted to tell you our outcome.
How many meals does she have? Is she feed on raw food? Just asking as my puppy has quite a few poo times...
He’s on two meals a day. He doesn’t have anything like as much as is on the packet - they usually recommend too much, which causes poos to be too soft. .
They certainly are all different! If Squidge (15 months) doesn't have a poo before bed, she will need one at 4:30am, without fail. No matter what time her last meal is. She's a three-a-day sort of girl. Willow is normally two and Shadow either one or two times.
Yay! I kept up the short walk before bed routine to get a poop til she was a year and a bit and slowly she changed to only needing to pee before bed!
