Tonight was the town firework display. It's always big and noisy, and this was Holly's first experience of a major display. We settled her down in the living room before it started, turned the TV up to disguise the noise, closed the curtains and had a few toys and treats on hand to distract her.

The first few bangs set off a car alarm in our road. Holly opened her eyes, stood up and barked a couple of times, then smelled the treats. From that moment the fireworks went completely out of her mind. 45 minutes later the last fireworks went off. My wife was sat on the floor with a snoring Lab draped across her lap. The treats were all gone!

That is good news, well done Holly.

Surprisingly we had a bark free fireworks too from Hattie & Charlie. There was quite a big display about 200 yards to the back of our house and not a single bark, not interested at all.

It's funny but their reactions can very a bit. Lady last year didn't bat an eyelid at fireworks. This year when our village display started up about half a mile away she was on the alert and her muscles along her shoulders and back were quite tense so clearly not comfortable with it. Then again in the field a shotgun can discharge right next to her and all she does is look for falling game. So work that out.

Anyway - well done Holly. Food is THE big distractor. ;D
