Hello all -- I am new to this forum, my apologies if this is not how to begin a conversation but I am honestly trying to help my puppy. My puppy who my son adopted came home with parvo, coccidia, ecoli and other parasites. He was in the hospital for over a week. Came home on a restricted diet and meds and was a normal puppy. After about a month he just stopped using his hind legs. We took him to several docs and the local University of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital for testing. Nothing stood out from all the testing including genetic testing. During the summer months we got him a life jacket and gave him some swim therapy in our pool. He started standing and walking a little. He is now 10 months old and his spine curved and it is obvious he is having a hard time with his right hind leg. After living through parvo, coccidia, ecoli, and other parasites he was meant to live and we are doing all we can to work with him. Anyone have idea's or suggestions? We love our Chipper so much. He is getting heavy to carry --- over 60 lbs. now as he needs assistance!!! Thank you.
You need to find out what happening so I would go back to your vet or more usefully see a specialist orthopaedic vet or return to the teaching hospital. Once you find out what's wrong you can make a plan and work towards helping your dog. I wouldn't suggest doing anything until you know what wrong as you could end up hurting him unintentionally.hope you can find a way to help him.
Did the hospital do scans or X-rays? I would definately be going back and getting them to investigate further as he is clearly in pain.
