Can anyone tell me the law in the UK around visually impaired people picking up their guide dogs poo. I know guide dogs are trained to go at home before they go out, but what happens if they do poop? Are visually impaired owners excempt?

They are not required by law to pick it up. http://www.environmentlaw.org.uk/rte.asp?id=50

But most do if the dog has an accident. They do it by feeling down the dog’s back as they poo (they are trained to accept this, it’s called ‘lead relief’)

Pups are trained to wee and poo on command so we make sure they are ‘empty’ before they leave home. Our aim is clean walks every time, no wees or poos. Of course, on free runs the owner won’t be able to pick up poos unless they have a sighted person with them.

Pups and Guide dogs wee and poo at home in a spending area so that owners don’t have to search the whole garden.

Many guide dog owners are not totally blind, they are visually impaired.

    From their web site -
“If you are blind or partially sighted Guide Dogs is committed to providing you with a guide dog or another more suitable mobility service.
    • Age – there is no lower or upper age limit
    • Living circumstances – religious or cultural backgrounds; city or rural locations; employed or unemployed; so long as the dogs physical and emotional needs are met, most circumstances can be accommodated
    • Level of sight loss – you do not need to have lost all your remaining sight
    • Cost – if needed, financial assistance is available
    • Training – we will work with you, and where relevant with other organisations, to achieve your goals”

It's never happened but I would offer to pick the poop up myself. I would expect the dog owner to have bags with them, in case I was not with my own dog and carrying my own. Heck, I already clean up horse and dog poop left on our trail. But, for the guide dog, I know I am not supposed to interfere with the dog, would this be something I should do? Of course I would ask the owner. Should check the laws here I guess, bet they are the same.

If only it were that simple we are being subjected to harassment and rudeness at the moment by so called professionals. They reduced one person to tears and have been stalking her on a daily basis. They are supposed to be dog wardens but I don't believe it they are nasty high vis bullies
