in September we brought our daughter to the airport for she was going to fly to Indonesia. She had to go for her minor in medicines. So Finn went with us. He likes being there, a lot to sniff about. My daughter forgot something to buy so we went to a store. While my OH and daughter were in the shop Finn and I waited on a bench. After a very short time a woman came and asked if she could pet Finn. Of course I said. We started a conversation. She came from Brazil and her bf wanted a Labrador also. While talking a men came and wanted to pet Finn too. He was from South Korea. He had a lab at home, a female only a couple of months old. He was missing her terribly. It was the same color as Finn. He showed me some pictures. Then my oh and daughter returned, made a conversation and some pictures were taken from Finn and the woman from Brazil for her bf. We all went our separate ways!
I had a man in tears a few weeks ago when I took Luna to a bar in the village because he was missing his dog so much while he was here on holiday! If you ever want to meet people, get a dog
A man came out of his house and threw his arms around Doug and sobbed. His lab had died a few days earlier and he needed to hug a lab. It was sad but nice to be able offer him some comfort, Doug was so sweet with him
I used to love our trips to collect/drop off family at the airport and at the ferry. So much going on, lots of different smells and noises - great training opportunities and so many people to meet and greet nicely. One of my favourite trips was to the ferry to collect OH and met a group of teenagers who were travelling to the UK with a school party. Lots of fuss and cuddles from both the girls and boys. It was interesting watching the boys making sure they got a turn to pet the puppy as well . Needless to say they were forgotten about as soon as Jen saw OH emerging from the arrivals
I find having a dog really helps people see you as approachable. A few weeks ago I was in a field with Harley and seen a young girl crying over the other side of the field. An older gentleman stopped and asked if she was, she nodded her head and walked away. I bumped into her a short while after and asked if she was ok, she said no and asked if she could hug Harley to which I said of course. When she finished she told me that her dog had just died and he had always been there for her since she was a toddler. She walked with us for a while telling me about her dog. When she left she said thank you to me and gave Harley a hug and got licks in return - as she walked off she said ‘I think I need a lab, I’m going to ask mum’. I think we are seen as nice people that others can relate to.
