Can anyone offer me any advice/support for seizures in Labradors. Apparently Labs are listed as one of the canine breeds that seizures are seen in. It is so upsetting to witness and my constant fear and worry over when the next one will come is extremely difficult for me.
Hello and welcome . I am sorry to hear this news , seizures are quite horrible to witness . I have rescued two small dogs who for various reasons suffered from them , both were on medication, phenobarbital which gave them a near normal and happy life . I think most Vets like to adopt a watch and wait period for a while , its useful to keep a diary during this time , so that the Vet can properly decide about the best effective medication . They then had blood tests every six months , to check that the level of drug was therapeutic , and that it wasn't affecting them in an adverse way, but honestly , it did give them a happy life, which I wish for your dog too .
Hi. My boy is epileptic. The anticipation of a seizure is awful, I understand your worries. I don’t have time now for a proper response, just want to let you know you’re not alone. I thought life had ended for us and our boy. But thankfully he is well managed now, and hasn’t had a seizure in about 9 months.
Hello and welcome, I'm really sorry to hear about your problems, but usually this condition can be managed well with medication, and most dogs with epilepsy live a happy and fulfilled life. My dog Poppy has had several seizures, and I know how terribly distressing it is. It may help to keep a diary of when the seizures happen, as this may help you to work out what are triggers for your dog - certainly in our case we were able to see certain patterns and took steps accordingly, which (fingers crossed) have greatly reduced the number and intensity of seizures.
Hi again. Can you tell us more about your Lab. Like, how old is your Lab? Boy or girl? How many seizures has he/she had? On medication? What treatment has your vet recommended? What do you feed your Lab? On flea/tick prevention? Where does he sleep - do you know if he has seizures at night? When do they occur?
