Took Red (14 months) yesterday to see the vet. We had to wait ages as the vet was dealing with an extremely noisy dog. Red just sat - I did give her a few treats because she was so quiet. She then got weighed - walked onto scales and sat down - she has put on a kilo which is good as she is only now back to the weight she was at the end of November (she had that horrible sickness and diarrhoea in December). Anyway I was pleased with her weight. She then had her annual vaccination and kennel cough dose. She was given a good check over. I asked about having her spayed as she has now had her first season. Got her booked in for that in a couple of months time. Then remembered she needed her nails cutting - I am still not brave enough to tackle them myself. A lovely vet nurse who I haven’t met before came along and cut them. It was a hoot as Red rolled onto her back - it’s the way she greets nearly everyone as she loves her tummy rubs, so the vet nurse just got on with her nails whilst she was on her back. We then left with Red walking to heel out the building and to the cat. A very satisfactory visit and lots of extremely nice comments about my very chilled puppy .
What a star little Red! Just a little bit envious over here. Xena thinks that the vet is the best place evaaaaaar so it's usually a bit of a fiasco. Better than a scared dog at least I guess lol.
Oh so envious! Benson still insists on kangeroo ing around the surgery, like it's the best place in the world...and he's four!
Don’t be envious. I think timing played a big part. Red had had two good walks before the visit and would normally have been snoozing that time of day. After so many not so nice trips to the vets last year when she had all those stomach upsets, it was a relief to be able to be so relaxed. I love getting compliments about my dogs - makes all the negative things worthwhile .
It's so great when just one thing goes well, a lovely feeling, so well done Red for being super behaved and making you so proud. I love it when a plan comes together (I think that might have been said before!).
I wish Bailey was quiet at the vet! The first visit he knocked down a very large display, stole a bone from the resident dog and tried to eat all the dog treats that had been displayed at floor level The next time we were ushered into the quiet room before we had time to sit down-well I tried to sit down-Bailey had obviously never heard the word sit. I think they are glad he’s very healthy so he doesn’t need to visit often- I’m quite glad myself
Come on - what's the trick? I would give a lot to have Molly behave like that at the vets. Our surgery has to be practically rebuilt after a visit from Molls. Very nearly a need for splints and bandages for the staff too - AND, all Molly is trying to do is love them all - oh boy.
All mine are very good. Doug took time to but he ok as he got older. Moo has always been brilliant as she is with things like this just super calm. Rory is really good and settles well but when they call his name he barks his head off. Its a good judge of vet character believe me. I ask him to quiet walk him in and I say to the get he's fine now he's just scared and shouty then he desolves into mister soppy and leans on the vet and is totally compliant gentle and sweet. He finds it stressful but is getting better.
Stanley barges in like tigger on speed and we have to say hello to everyone. Then AS SOON as the vet calls his name it's as though a realisation dawns and he plants his feet firmly on the floor and refuses to move. I had to carry him in last time and he was only there to be weighed and wormed

Good puppy We had a spell where Tatze was terrified of the vets, no idea why. We changed vets and the new building/people has done the trick. She goes in wagging now. .
I was at the vets a lot last year because of Red’s digestive problems. So good to go for routine things .
Well done Red! Poppy hates the vet's; Merlin loooooooves it. Same vet, no bad experiences, just very different dogs, I guess...
Well done Red Harley only likes certain vets so I always have to make sure she sees them. The one she doesn’t like owns the practice and he’s lovely, but for some reason she doesn’t like him and backs away from him if he goes near her!
Our Cooper used to do this! He loved the waiting room but as soon as his name was called he headed for the door! He did this his whole life.
Riley is not a lover of the vets as well. As soon as we enter she gets very excited and a bit hyper. What has made it even worse is when she had to get her kennel cough vaccine. I wasn’t aware that it was a nasal spray. When the vet squirted it up her nose Riley totally freaked out and jumped all over the place sneezing and trying to pull out the door. The one good thing was I almost got away without paying with all the mayhem going on I think they pleased when we had gone.
Maxx has only been three times but already he remembers that he gets treats from the vet nurse so practically drags us up the ramp and into the vets. He goes nuts but the vet nurse is very good with him and somehow she magically gets him to calm down with just a few words. I think she does dog training on the side. The second time I was paying and noticed blood trickling down her arm from where he accidentally bit her when he jumped up at her. I didn't know where to look . So we were a bit pleased with ourselves last time we went and he didn't jump up at all (one of our few successful training areas) but he started barking instead. Sigh.
