I caught Tilly dragging a package of English Muffins off the counter today after breakfast. She is 12 yrs old, so it may take a while. Cooper was sitting quietly saying "Tilly did it, I'm not involved".
Moo tried for and got chips and half a battered sausage which had been placed within reach. She very old wobbly legged and partially sighted and still managed it at 14 1/2. she's just as I was typing nicked my chocolate chip biscuit old but not daft
Thanks for this, Bonnie sleeps in her crate in the lounge, I don't trust her yet still, she's 5 1/2 months now, ive completed cleared the hallway of shoes etc, but I was just wondering when life might get a bit of normality back. We don't have the luxury of a big kitchen where she can sleep, so it's either the lounge or hall, and our house is like fortknox with gates and crate and even chicken wire over the tv box...! our shoes at the moment all live in the dinning room, I know it's not forever, I knew it would be like this, but im just wondering if there may be a bit of breathing space anytime soon. Your post struck a chord with me, you never know I could have shoes back in the hallway by 2019!! thank you
Bailey is 5 months old and sleeps in her crate in the kitchen. Like you, I am around all day and crate her if I need to pop to the shops but take her on the school run which she loves. She has chewed the kitchen walls in the past when we went upstairs to get ready one morning but that was when she was @ 2-3 months old!! Although she’s better now I would be concerned about leaving her out of her crate in the kitchen as I think she’s so used to having me around she might eat the kitchen door (!) or scratch it to death as she might think we’re elsewhere in the house. She will happily chew shoes, socks etc. I would be worried that she would be anxious and misbehave at this stage. If I pop to the shops I make sure she goes out for a walk first and I leave a frozen Kong for her to entertain her for a bit. I’m looking forward to decrating in the future but won’t be doing it for a while yet.
It's not that Homer has become less destructive, we've become a lot tidier and don't leave things out. If he's in the mood or there's the opportunity he'll find something. It's just less often now.
Axel is two and will still steal items. He doesn’t rip them to shreds every time now, just occasionally When he does take something he runs off to the living room and then looks at me and drops it when I look back at him. Then I make my way over to him casually and say ‘good boy’ and give him a toy in exchange for the dropped item. I’m not sure if this is the right thing to do, as he does still do it but at least he drops it
Luna is still obsessed with shoes at 16 months. So I’ve taught her to retrieve my walking boots on cue.
I think Monty became a lot better between 12 and 18 months, and then pretty trustworthy by 2 yrs (ish) He only destroys things now when it is a game instigated by me, such as helping me unwrap a parcel, or finding kibble in a cardboard box which he will then destroy. Or, when he is getting completely frustrated. Today he got his walk very late, he was quite happy snoozing all morning but when he became bored he started chewing a coat hanger in front of me. We got the hint....
