lucy has been dripping blood for the last 5 days, how many more days before she stops...it doesn't seem a lot because she cleans herself and also drips of blood on the floor....we can't put paper down because she absolutely shreds it....we are using covers on the furniture day and night....she seems a bit scared of all that's happening and in the night if she's on her own she will start to cry for a few minutes....she still gets very excited when she sees you and definitely is more clingy.....any suggestions would be much appreciated.thanks.

Hi, and welcome to you and Lucy.

A season lasts on average around 21 days; and yes she may be a bit worried by what is happening to her. Just be calm and kind, and play games and so on with her to keep her mind off things. Exercise her in your garden or in a safe enclosed area if possible, or else take her out on leash at times when other dogs are not around. Watch out when she stops bleeding after around 10 days or so - this is when her most fertile period will start. It'll all be over in three weeks, so just hang in there.

I think they all vary. My puppy is 14 months and has just had her first season. She dripped blood for two and a half weeks (I don’t remember my other Lab being that long). She cleaned herself and cleaned up after herself a lot. If she had been lying down for a while, then she would get up and drip everywhere. I found it easier to lay covering over our only carpeted room downstairs (she doesn’t go upstairs). The other floors, I mopped up the drips as they happened. I also mopped the floors more frequently. In herself, she wasn’t really fazed by it - initially she looked at the drips in surprise. She was very quiet but then she is a fairly quiet dog anyway. We continued to walk her as normal - just hyper vigilant. I was pleased to put the covers away :).

Yes, I think they can get a bit perturbed about being in season, Cassie spent a lot of time just staring at us as if it was our fault! They usually bleed for about ten days I believe, but @Atemas like Red Cassie bled for a good 2 weeks plus the first season but not during her second heat.
Good advice from @Atemas and @Karen.
