I have a 2 1/2 Lab who a few weeks ago threw up and stopped eating and drinking. He ate very little for a few days then I took him to the vet. They ran blood work and xrays and checked him out. All organs were fine, nothing showed on the xrays all organs looked normal. The xray did show little white spots but that might have been the rice i fed him earlier. They gave him a shot for the vomiting and diarrhea. He did lose 2 kg but vet didn’t seem concerned. I had take home medicine to coat the stomach before meals. A few days after the vet visit he was getting better day by day. Now a few weeks later He eats and drinks normal, some days he poops 2-3 then other days he poops 5 times. Atleast one of the poops is runny then the others are normal. The energy level isn’t back to what he was. He had no energy when he was sick a few weeks back then it increased but not back to what it was. He use to run upstairs now he walks, he use to stand in a room and watch what you are doing now he lays down within half a minute. He is fed the correct amount of food and even a few spoons of pumpkin each day. Do I just wait to see if this improves over the next week or so or what should I do? I am stumped.
Hi and welcome. I'd take him back to the vets for a further checkup. That doesn't sound right. Has he been wormed recently?
Hello and welcome to the forum. I agree with Karen. Take him back to the vets. They should know what to do for him.
Hi He does take a monthly pill of Revolution which provides protection against heartworms, fleas and other parasites. Does that cover the worms? With all the blood tests and checks they did 2 weeks ago I assumed that would be part of the check. I read the symtoms of worms and he has a a hunger all the time but he is a lab. As for anything in his poop that would be no as before he was sick and since I always look through to see of it is all waste or other matter in there. On some days his poop is brown on the outside and the color of the pumpkin on the inside, would that be from the pumpkin I give him ( 2 table spoons) each day?
Hi Zila, welcome. I would also be concerned. I definitely would be getting advice from my vet if this were my dog. It' kind of worrying the lack of energy you describe. Jac
I echo everyone’s suggestions of going back to the vets if he still has no energy as that doesn’t sound right. Hope he gets better soon.
I think you know your dog, and I echo the above comments, and maybe it's time to have a chat with the vet. Out of interest, what sort of diagnostics were taken?
They did blood work on the organs and checked all levels to see if any were high or to low. They showed the chart and reviewed with me in detail sorry cant remember each one. Felt his body all over like legs chest etc. Checked heart rate and temperature. And thats the thing nothing really stood out from the test results to say here is the problem lets fix it. Right after the vet he was perking up not vomiting. His energy is reduced but not like it was when he was sick. When he was sick his eyes looked droopy and just so tired and would not play. Then after the vet he got life back in his eyes and moving better. I played ball a little today and played with his toys with him today. I was even thinking about going to the park to give him fresh air and cheer him up. He use to act this tired after a full day of daycare but since he was sick I havent taken him back and wont, till I make sure he is back to full health. Thank you for all the comments and concerns. I took him already spent nearly $900 for tests and xrays and then researched google for days. Just feel a bit defeated that I cant resolve this for him, he depends on me and I want to make the right choices for him.
