J was picking up the other day when the council vehicle came round the corner. They gave him a big smile and thumbs-up. Which was lovely but pretty sad that it's even worthy of such a response!
Don’t get me started I’m supposed to avoid stress, the people I can’t understand are the ones that pick up the poo in a bag and then throw it in a hedge or bush. On my regular walk route there is a lane about half a mile in length with a poo bin at either end, there are no pavements just a narrow lane with hedges either side my dog often poos on this stretch which I pick up but by the time I get to the other end I will have retrieved on average another two bags of poo from the hedges and that’s every day. Makes my blood boil.
I see the most poo on forest walks and on the Downs. (At my local rec people seem to be a bit more responsible.) I realised that I never saw anyone carrying a bag of poo in these places but their dogs sure will have dropped a few! I think people believe it's ok not to pick up if it's off the main path but I'm always walking off the main path and into undergrowth, as are kids. It infuriated me when my son was a toddler that he didn't have to wander far to tread in mess. On a lighter note, I was walking on the Downs recently and a gorgeous little spaniel ran up and ripped the bag of poo I was carrying out of my hands. I called out to her owner to tell her and she said "yes it's her thing, we just ignore it or else she'll think it's a game"! And the poo, bag and all, was merrily eaten. Apparently she'd also stolen someone else's treat bag, swallowed it whole and when given something by the vet to make her sick, it came out whole!
