Things you'll only understand when you have a labrador!

Yeah, Teller usually waits outside of the bathroom door but only after checking on me to make sure all the goings on are above-board. The litter box is in the bathroom so I usually keep the door cracked just in case a cat needs to go. When I least expect a snout will wiggle its way between the door and frame and fling it open with the dramatic flare of a soap opera character catching their partner cheating. T will trot in, lay his head in my lap, lick me a few times and depart. Bonus if he can filch a discarded toilet paper roll from the trash or a sock off the floor and run off with it knowing there's nothing I can do about it. The best is when I'm in the downstairs half bath and he runs inside but is too big to turn around so he has to back up. Sometimes I make a beeping noise as if he were a truck, he rushes back inside to lick me and has to start the process over again.

On the sock thief thing...


Teller scored a 9/10. I never had him when he was teething so I escaped the crocopup stage. He was mouthier from 12-18 months. Always (thankfully) has had a lovely soft mouth, though. Most people we met during those days were very understanding and sympathized with the efforts to train him not to mouth arms and hands, a few even complimented his softness of mouth while he was just standing there holding their hand and nibbling their sleeve.

Definitely need to add the poo eating, being convinced every person and animal loves him, thieving, stealing my spot in bed, and rolling in stinky things. T doesn't do the last that often but there was one time I distinctly remember: he managed to find a rotting fish carcass buried in the sand at the beach and proceeded to rub it behind his ears like doggy cologne. The smell was so foul I kept retching when he was near. Luckily the smell washed out with a few minutes of swimming, else he might have had to ride home on the roof.

 

Holly doesn't like the bathroom because it contains her nemesis - the bath. She does, however, trot upstairs to welcome me out of the shower. This is usually a prelude to running off with one of my slippers.

 

I have lost track of how many tea-towels / kitchen hand-towels I have had to wash because they end up snatched from the bench top / oven rack / laundry sink / our hands (via a ninja sneak up from behind and grab from around your legs) and other seemingly impossible to reach places. Maxx seems to grow daily so we are having to put everything ever higher or further into the middle of the table or bench. Exhausting! And what is it with remote controls????

 

So they can watch TV of course. Vanilla used to do this a lot, but then she figured out how to turn the TV on (well chewing on buttons kind of does this eventually). That then made her look complexed and eventually she stopped

 

you're right there! Mine also has an on and off (mostly off now thank god!!) fascination with remote control. We now have a mobile phone app to control the TV, just in case - though Bowie managed to get my mobile phone a few times and running around the house with it in his mouth I had to chase him armed with the tastiest treats in the house - he thought it's the funnest game ever!

 

Oh so relatable! Bismo my lab isn't very stalking and isn't following me much so I think it might be a personality trait. He is actually very independent! Or it might be his "age" (teenager independence?)

Either way I'd like to add:

"Eats anything on the ground, even on walks." Which isn't good if it happened to be something poisonous. Or another dogs poop

And let's not forget about the stealing You turn your back and suddenly the sandwich that you left on the table is gone. I wonder how

 

oh how we can relate. Hair everywhere .... luckily no shoes but when we give her a chew there is no mercy and bits pick up for days. And the towel thing... where does she find them I swore I put them all out of reach. I no longer worry about stepping in unexpected piles of cat puke (ick)

Ya know i was just reading through some posts thinking "my god this puppy is going to be a lot of work" (he doesn't even come home for another month!) then I come across this and can't help but laugh and look forward to all the crazy antics.

We don't want the dog on the furniture (best laid plans.....like we didn't want the kids sleeping in our bed....I know how it works), but I wouldn't even be mad if the dog faked a door knock just to steal my seat and pretend to be sleeping seconds later. Seriously, it doesn't get any better than that!!

Maxx has a fascination with large sticks or palm fronds. He finds them either in our backyard, steals them from the green waste bin or picks them up on a walk and carries them all the way home. They are up to 2-3 times longer than him and of course he has to bring them into the house - turning sideways to lever them in. We keep the back door open for him (unless it is super hot or there are lots of bugs) so we normally don't notice he has found yet another one until we step into the kitchen/laundry to find a million pieces of chewed up foliage strewn across the floor. He sits there looking so proud of himself and you just can't be cranky with him. He is only 15 week old so we are anxiously awaiting the next phase of his personality and the resulting antics!

I just assume I am most likely ingesting lab hair with all my meals.

 

But we wouldn't be without them

 

I'm fairly certain that my son's first solid food was Ella hair
