I go back to the vet on Friday to get his bandage/dressing changed and for them to have a good look at how the wound is healing. I am hoping the pathology results will be back by then, but if not I should find out by early next week - they said it can take up to 7 business days to hear back from the pathologist.
I would have thought dissolvable stitches would be common practice amongst vets worldwide if it was suitable for the type of procedure done, don't like the idea of staples!
IT IS GREAT NEWS!! just got the call from the vet with the pathology results, it is a fungal infection that caused inflammation and the hair follicles to fall out which explains why there was a lump there, therefore it is NOT a mast cell tumour and now have to patiently wait for his wound to heal over the next few weeks. Naturally I had a lot of concerns and thinking worst case scenarios - I can't thank all of you enough for your messages of support and having Henry in your thoughts, it's a really great start to the month now that I've heard the news and can't wait to see Mr H when I get home from work.
So very pleased to read your news, it's so lovely that get home from work and see my dog feeling -- even better today (or tonight, as feels like to me in freezing snowy UK )
Excellent news and one less thing to worry about. Hopefully his leg will heal up quickly and back to normal in no time
That’s the best news ever!!! What a relief!! I’m so happy for you and Henry. It also gives all of us hope that, if we find a lump on our dog, it doesn’t have to be the worst outcome, even if we can’t help but worry so. So, so happy for you!!
Woohoo, brilliant news That was for our little foster dog who had a front leg amputation. The staples were pretty gruesome but I think more durable than stitches for such a big operation. Spoiler: Photo of Conchita's staples post amputation
We went back to the vet yesterday for another bandage/dressing change and the wound is healing well - he is needing the change of bandage every 4-5 days and finished his medication (antibiotics and anti-inflammatory tablets) yesterday. He is back to his normal self but would love to be able to take him out for a long walk but while he's still bandaged up we are limited to short on-lead walks.
