Hi everyone! My name is Loz, my husband and I have a 7 month old black Labrador named Cali. The last few days she’s been getting a bit agressive with me, it’s when I have tried to stop her digging a hole in the yard... she jumps up and bites my stomach or wherever, she also runs around and then launches at me full speed and almost knocks me over. I have a bruise on my leg from where she bit me yesterday. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas how I can stop her from doing this? She’s mostly a playful beautiful pup she’s not agressive towards other humans or kids (we take her out every Sunday to our fav cafe and she loves being spoilt by everyone)
A quick question - How were you trying to stop her digging? There could be several reasons and different ways of dealing with this behaviour but a clear picture of all the event(s) will help.
Thanks for the reply! I told her “no” several times, tried calling her name and when she didn’t respond I covered the hole with my foot.
Hey, Have you tried the distract and divert tactic rather than saying no? Maybe play with something really exciting - a fun game she’ll love or some yummy treats? My 6 month old lab is really into stones in the garden which drives me crazy but any reaction to the actual stone just makes him want to play with it more and can send him a bit bonkers. So instead I’ll play with something else in an excited voice that he just can’t resist coming and joining in with And the stone is then forgotten. Or I’ll say…’How about a game of………..’ and then shout some cue - maybe tug, find, seek - or my go-to when he really doesn’t want to stop ‘scatter’ when I drop a handful of kibble for him to find. He comes running for that one every time!! I find distracting tends to diffuse the situation rather than saying no which can ramp up the pup into a charging, manic, hooligan at this age
