It was never something I noticed until seriously everyone in my family started pointing it out. Everyone says Aspen has a huge bumhole. I didn’t think anything of it. I’ve never compared his to any other dogs! It is healthy, no bumps or swelling or anything, he just has a bigger hairless patch. He does occasionally have a stinky fish butt. I know this is a very weird thing to post about but I have read from some people who have worked with dogs throughout their lives that they feel as though intact males have larger bumholes. Anyone have any thoughts on this odd question?

Thank you made me laugh so much. I'm not sure is the hole itself larger? ,Or is the hair missing? My old dog rubbed the hair off his a hole area once when he had an anal glad problem. Could t be that's he's rubbed hair off?

@SwampDonkey Haha! I am glad I could make you laugh and thank you for reassuring that it is not a weird question. I personally don’t think his bumhole itself is big but maybe it is? It doesn’t seem that hair is missing because he’s never scooted...he just has a bigger ring

The fishy smell would likely be his anal glands. Some dogs need help with theirs luckily I've never had to help Homer.

Definitely not an odd question. Got me thinking, Coco's "bum hole" - the hairless area - appears SMALLER than I am used to - I think it's down to the way his (tufty) bum hair lies, though I haven't really had a close inspection yet. Belle had quite bushy, fluffy hair, but it tended to lie away from the bum-centre and look like a chrysanthemum. Scooby's was just a perfect Labrador bum.

    I would love to see a KC-style description of breed-standard bum-hole!

Stanleys bumhole changes when he needs a poo. It sort of puckers up and that's how I know he needs to go.

The things that get discussed on this forum.. o_O:D

Snowie’s is quite large. I’ve seen some that look like 10c pieces (tiny). He’s intact. I didn’t know there might be a correlation. He does lick it a lot at times. Although the vet has never commented on it. I’ll ask her next time! Interesting question!

Ella has just given me an awful look as I lifted her tail to take a peek. I'm not sure that there's anything about of the ordinary.

I can imagine the dogs on their own thread will be sharing bewildered comments about why their hoomans have suddenly started taking an interest in their bum-holes. We're a strange bunch of monkeys.

This is not only the most hilarious thread ever but the title has me in stitches every time I see it. Thanks so much for such a good old laugh @alschwahn.

(My first thought was 'who you calling a big bumhole'?) :D:D
