    Hi,

Vanilla has allergies, we think they are seasonal as she has been fine during the cooler months and only gets bad in hot weather. During this summer it has got bad and she has been on Antibiotics at times, Macrolone and Apoquel (I am not keen on these, but needed something). We have also excluded chicken from her diet for now (she is on a raw diet). We think it might actually be dust, as there has been some building works on a large piece of land and now it is just a dust pit whilst they seek approval for the next step.
We have just finished the course of Apoquel, and now she is as bad as ever (during the period 4weeks of Apoquel she was still itchy and nibbling/licking herself).
I am not 100% convinced that it is food related, but we have to do this prior to seeing a dermatologist.
We are going back to our vet tonight as we have to get something for Vanilla (even if it is for a short period) to stop her scooting on her bum and nibbling/licking her self. She started scooting again today, so of to the vet (this has nothing to do with Anal Glands).
We will have to make an appointment with the dermatologist, but there are only 2 here and 1 is very good. Waiting times are not brilliant, so hence a short term fix until we can get an appointment (this will be organised tonight, referral).
So this now leads me to my main question, someone suggested a Holistic Vet to see if this would/could assist whilst we wait for the other appointment (plus they said it is a lot cheaper = please note that does not bother me we already factored in cost for Vanilla).
Anyone been to one for this type of symptom or even in general plus thoughts?

    Thanks for any advise

No, I have no experience of this, but just wanted to say I’m sorry Vanilla has developed these symptoms. The hot weather must make it difficult. :(

Thanks for your replies. We have managed to get an appointment with the dermatologist in a couple of weeks. In the meantime got some cream and spray to help Vanilla ease the itching.
We wont be persuing the Hollistic Vet after a bit more research.

Sorry to hear the lovely Vanilla has these issuses, :(
Hope you can keep her comfy for the next few weeks.
For what it'says worth it use homeopathy a lot, with good success. But I have a good understanding of the basics and guidance from experienced people. It really helped cassie when she had a phantom pregnancy.

I hope she's ok until you see the dermatologist, I know you've had this problem for a while. This type of thing is so frustrating but when you see your specialist it may give you some of the answers you need. We all want the best for the stunning Miss V x

Our story is much the same up to the point you say Vanilla is fed raw. Oban was on a rotation of kibbles and got itchy each summer no matter which kibble. The kibbles were three completely different main protein and main carb. Then he got deathly ill and a home cooked diet of one novel protein and one novel carb ended his month and a half long diarrhoea promptly and he also stopped itching. This was per the new Holistic/Intergrative Vet we switched to and stayed with. Then we slowly went raw, very slowly and still no itiching. Many Vet bellieve now that the gut is the source of itching. Unfortunately Oban got sick again and is back on a special but yet again novel protein and only itches mildly when shedding. We are absolutely thrilled with our HOlistic/Intergrative Vet who uses TCM and several other treatments depending on the animal.

ETA We are slowly going back to raw. So far so good.
