The good thing was that I was holding one of the toddler's hands and his mother was holding the other, which meant his movements were controlled by us to a large extent, making him a lot less unpredictable. Lots more work to do, though :)

    Lol at the nun
    Glad the day went well
I am lucky that we have children visit us and I work with children so Harley has been exposed to all ages and now generally ignores children unless they are playing with her, but she is always much calmer around children than adults

I thought I would revisit this thread after an incident this evening. Or, rather, a lack of incident or anything of interest.

At the end of our walk, old friends and their six-year old came up to us. The kid petted the dogs. The end.

I really never thought we'd be in the situation where I didn't have to micro-manage Willow and Shadow around kids and be on edge to ensure they were in exactly the right frame of mind to say hi.

OK, I'll add the proviso that this is a pretty calm kid, no flapping, screaming or barking at the dogs, but she did run straight to me for a hug. It was only afterwards I realised that I wasn't having to be immediately alert to getting W&S away. They took it in their stride, wagged their tails and politely greeted her. How far we have come :)

Amazeballs, that's brilliant! 6 year olds are still pretty squeaky so that's huge progress!

I turned my back, crossed my arms and averted eye contact until she calmed down ;)

She calls me "Princess Fiona" - when J and I got married, she was one of the very few kids allowed and, as I walked into sight, she gasped and said, loudly, "It's a beautiful princess!!!".

I feel I have shattered her dreams since then, as I am definitely most un-princess-like :D

Well done you with the whole kid/run/hug thing, don't think I'd have been so cool.
Wonderful that Willow & Shadow were so relaxed.
