Anyone that kibble feeds, how do you feel about James Wellbeloved? He was on CSJ for working dogs but hard to find, so the breeder recommended J.W which he has been on for a week. Just want to know about your experience with it x
If you're happy with CSJ it's easy enough to order from them on-line. I don't use their food, but I do order other stuff from them.
Joy has James Welbeloved and is fine with it. Solstice, our previous lab also did very well on it. It turns out it's the food our vet gives his dogs as well.
If his tummy and poos are good and you are happy with the price I would stick with it. I always recommend Skinners Salmon once they are adults - it’s excellent food at a good price. Our pups are on Royal Canin, but I don’t particularly rate it.
Stanley was on JWB but his poo’s were always a bit on the soft side. We changed to Canagan and have had no problems since. I know plenty of people who use JWB and are perfectly fine on it though
Molly was on JWB for several years and fine on it. I changed to Skinners a few months ago as it’s cheaper and seemed to have as good ingredients.
Royal Canine for lab puppies has been working well. Gus our 4-year-old lab has never had an eating issue and he has been on it for 3 years or more.
I tried JWB for mine but they were a bit loose on it, the one I have left is on Arden Grange Lamb and Rice and is fine.
Their poos are never as firm as Tatze’s (she’s on Skinners) and the ingredients aren’t as good as Skinners either. Tatze is super glossy, fit and healthy. Guide Dogs have a contract with RC - all their pups and dogs are on it - and it is good for them as there is so much choice for different breeds etc. It’s not a bad food, just not as good at twice the price of Skinners - in my opinion. If I had my own pup again I’d start it on RC then move to Skinners for the adult. .
Pongo has always been on CSJ Champ (first Little Champ then Adult Champ), I buy online from their website and they deliver promptly and reliably - I'd really recommend their service and it is much more convenient than buying in the shops. They have also been brilliant at sorting out issues whenever necessary, as well as giving me tons of advice on phone and email, I'm really delighted with them (as you can probably tell). One month's supply of kibble (one bag) costs me £15 including postage. Even if you don't go back to them for kibble, you ought to try their "Dem Bones" biscuits - Pongo gets one every night and it has completely sorted out his smelly bottom. And he loves them!
These parts in particular really appeal haha! I just bought a 2kg bag for almost £8 which will last about a week!! Will definitely look at CSJ as he was weaned on that! X
I am a huge fan (and probably boringly enthusiastic about them). I promise I'm not on commission!!!! Pongo's kibble is CSJ Champ (he was on Little Champ until he was about 12 months I think). We make sure we have a constant supply of "poppets" treats because they are nice and dry and don't make your pocket mucky (and they are low fat). For special extra treats we ring the changes between "training tips", "fishcuits" and "gnaw rolls" (sliced up). "Dem Bones" seem to be magical in the bottom area (!) and the salmon oil has completely cleared up Pongo's occasional skin hotspots. Here's their product list... If he is suffering with flatulence, or should I say you suffer because of his flatulence , particularly if he didn't before on the CSJ, then the James Wellbeloved doesn't really suit him. We become very focussed on poo quality but there are other things to consider for good digestion
Good point. I'm going to change him back to CSJ. The only reason he's on JW is because the breeder sent a bag in his puppy pack as well as a few pouches of CSJ kibble. He was a lot less smelly on CSJ now thinking about it!
Thanks, thats interesting and will look into it. He is only 6 months at the moment, so will keep him on it, but may move once he comes off the puppy food. I get it direct from a distributor, so nowhere near as pricey as the shops. We do get comments on how shiney his coat is so thats all ok, his form is great too. His poos have only dipped a bit when it was our fault.
