Brand new to this forum and brand new Lab owner. I had my Husky for 16 years prior to my baby Lab Leroy. He will 3 months on April 5th... He still hasn't had all his shots. Going to the vet this Friday. Meanwhile everything was going good, even when I put him in is enclosure with his pipi pads, I came home most of the time with a clean pen, but last Thursday he started having diarheas, but by the end of the day it was more solid, this is the 6th day. He poops 3-4 times a day, always from real soft to harder by the last one. I read about the rawhide bones and cut those off, but no change... Maybe I feed him too much. What should a 3 month old male Lab eat ? I give him 1 1/2 cup in the morning and at supper time. But he gulps it down like in 2 minutes. I've never seen a dog eat so fast, he has no control. I'm a little worried. Starting to think "what was I thinking of getting a puppy" But I love him so much already :) HELP

At 3 months most of us feed 3x per day. I pretty much went with the dog food mfgs. recommendations for amount based on weight and age when ours were pups. Of course you have to pay attention to their condition and keep them in a good weight range. When they reached about a year, the mfgs recommendations seemed like way too much food.

Labs in general seem to be hungrier and eat faster than a lot of breeds, particularly Northern Spitz Dog in my experience.

Hi there and welcome. I agree with Ski Patroller, you should still be feeding your puppy smaller amounts three times a day. Only eating twice a day means he eats too much and cannot digest it properly, leading to diarrhea. However, almost all labs eat their food very fast, and are ALWAYS hungry, so don't be fooled into over-feeding him.

Ask your vet about the feeding as he may need certain amounts for his weight. Mine was a little overweight at that age and needed a slight cut in her feed until she reached her correct weight.

Quantities for feeding are dependant upon the food and the individual puppy. I would definitely be feeding at least 3 meals a day at 3 months of age though, if not 4 small meals to help digestion

At that age I was told by the breeder to feed four meals a day. At six months to feed three meals. And only at about 8-10 months (my memory is vague here) to feed two meals a day.

Two meals only for a puppy is too few. Think of a human baby that feeds frequently. Their bodies are still small and they need frequent intakes of energy.

Also consider a food dish that slows down the gulping. We have one that’s like a maze that increased his eating time by 4 times.

I used to scatter feed Rory just used a big bit of fleece and threw his food on to it it helped with his inhaling food problem.

He is still little at the moment and I am not sure if he is too young for a Kong Wobbler but it was great for Harley. And it mentally stimulating too. We didn't use it for every meal but at least for one a day. Depending where you are in the world and how warm it is? We used to freeze one of Harley's meals in a container with water. The kibble will then be at the top of the block of ice when tipped out and she would lick her kibble out. We would never do this for breakfast, she was too hungry for that.
