Bless our tiny girl ,she has coped with so much in the past few months and all taken in her small stride . Losing Sam hit her hard, as it did all of us, but she didn't understand . Sam was her comfort blanket , being deaf meant that she needed extra help and he gave it in bucket loads . Just beginning to cope and manage , showing some self confidence and what happens ? I disappear to hospital ! Although Nelly is a proper family dog , it was me who did the training , walking etc and suddenly I wasn't around , not only that but she was left for long periods of time whilst the family visited hospital . She must also have picked up on stress, worry and panic, but bless her heart , she accepted all that came her way . Eight weeks post surgery , I have begun to walk again , albeit short distances compared to what I used to walk , but I am grateful that I am able walk at all and to do what I can ! Its going to take a long time and a chance ( I`m told ) that I might not ever be as fit as before ( who are they kidding ??? ) but my little girl is so happy to have normal service resumed ,her tail never stops wagging ! I had been seriously considering adopting another Labrador , thinking that it would be a wonderful tribute to our boy and a thoroughly nice thing to do , but I now know that this wont happen due to my illness, but we have our little Nelly , its a year since we fetched her from those who didn't want her any more and we love her to the moon and back , little hero ! xxx

This is a lovely post to wake up to - how lovely to see you back, Kate! Nelly's a very resilient little dog, and I daresay the chaotic years before she came to you helped her cope with the uncertainty while you were in hospital.
Nelly must be the greatest tonic Kate How wonderful to have you back. You have been missed so very much xx
