Hi all, Bagheera has been really getting better meeting new ppl he isn't so nervous now. He barks when anyone comes into our garden, he's just letting me know someone's there but I have one friend who has seen him lots of times and he just barks at her he won't go anywhere near her, he's only like it with her. Any ideas why this could be?
Hi it’s great that he has been getting better and isn’t so nervous, well done to both of you. Bagherra is possibly letting you know there is someone there or he could be protecting it. I’m not sure how old Bagherra is Could be a milestone thing when they become a little scared of familiar things possibly my dog trainer mentioned they can be fine with objects/people then for no reason be more alert or scared. Go slowly and keep treating when he is quiet. Hope this helps
Maybe he’s not sure of her. Have you tried asking her to throw treats towards him when she comes over? This may help him associate her with good things.
Yes have tried the treat thing and he just doesn't seem to like her. He barks whenever someone comes in but settles with in minutes but this friend he don't wanna know her just barks and tries to hide. Might try going for a walk and meeting her and seeing how he is. Thank you
@Vicci If he doesn't like your friend so be it. There's no reason why he should just because it's a friend of yours. If he is uncomfortable with her around let him have his space and not be around her. There is no reason why your dog should like/love everyone in just the same way that you like sone peopke more than others.
I have asked her not to come round. I don't expect him to like everyone but he's fine with anyone else that comes here.
Yeah she understands that this is his safe place and don't want him to be uncomfortable. I go to her for coffee.
