@HAH Yes, when I changed Mollie over exactly this happened. So I went back to three meals for another couple of months. Then I moved her over to two meals really slowly - a gram at a time.
My two have always had 3 meals a day, mainly as my older one has Inflammatory Bowel Disease so needs to eat little and often or else we get flare ups of vomiting and pain. Ash the 15mth old thinks it's great, he certainly isn't complaining. LOL. Personally I'd be putting your pup back on 3 meals to see what happens. It sounds as though his stomach isn't coping with the extra amount of food in each sitting.
I didn't notice anything different with Maisy when I cut out her lunch meal but she still gets treats inbetween the 9.30/10am and the 6-8pm meal. My feeding is not always very regular which is probably frowned upon but Maisy is just sometimes not bothered about dinner at all. She was sick several months ago and also bought up bile that morning and not knowing why she would do that I took her to the vets who said the same thing as yours, they also gave antacids and an anti-nausea injection. Both of which I don't think were necessary and a few hours later she was actually sick again so the injection did not work any way. I think the vets frighten us sometimes as they tend to look at the bigger picture in case the smaller most obvious picture is not the right one. However, the vet never told me about the bile in the morning and that is where this forum comes in handy!
Thanks @Shaz82, I think you're absolutely right; and as we're getting to know our hound we're realising that our judgment and knowledge of him is a huge factor in how we approach these things. All part of the learning curve! But your thoughts and others on this forum are a really valuable reference point (and reassurance!) so thank Jiminy for the Labrador Forum
Also this made me chuckle - Kipper would definitely be telling us if we'd forgotten a meal, although I still have a reminder on my phone "just in case"
