It has a happened a few times but not for a good couple of months now, that Harley leaks some urine or urinates during sleep. We wake up to her trying to clean it up. She is almost ALWAYS on the bed and I would notice if she was incontinent. So I was wondering if she could be urinating during a dream?

I am keeping a close eye on her and if anything else starts happening I will take her to the vet. No other symptoms, she is lively, loving and appetite and water consumption as per normal.

Is Harley spayed? Apparently intermittent incontinence is fairly common among spayed dogs - something to do with lower estrogen levels mean that the sphincter muscles aren't as strong as they might be - I remember looking into this when we were deciding whether or not to have Poppy spayed. It can be treated medically, I am pretty sure.

Yep they use INCURIN. Moo used it for a while. It does work, but it more usual on older females.

Xena had this happen a few times over several weeks when she was almost 1 - I'd check her blankets in her crate every morning and there'd be a small wet patch, so she wasn't doing a complete bladder empty. I took her to the vet because my initial thought was a bladder infection, but she was fine. The vet said that it was a common thing in spayed females, and that it could just be her having a little leak when she woke up because her bladder was full. Medication was an option if it became chronic. But after a couple of weeks of intermittent leaks, it stopped. No idea why. Maybe you'll find that Harley will just stop too.

Thank you for the replies. Harley is spayed. It is very intermittant and we have had little leaks in the past but I honestly think it happened in a dream because there was so much urine. I am watching her carefully.

Are you sure it’s urine? The wet patch might be from saliva from licking - you say you see her cleaning it up, but it might just be licking only, no urine. Sometimes Snowie can lick his paw while lying on our bed so much he leaves a very wet patch on our duvet cover.
